Residents of TRAPPISTAN probably have calves the size of cantaloupes and lurk around womenâs bathrooms.
We should get the ark together now, the way weâre burning through this planet weâre going to need a few spares soon.
an ultracool dwarf
You know itâs going to want an HBO seriesâŚ
I love science.
The three exoplanets orbit an ultracool dwarf star formally known as 2MASS J23062928-0502285 in the constellation of Aquarius, just 40 light years away from Earth.
Of course, it makes sense that Aquarians would get first dibs as pioneers to those planets. We will be benevolent rulers.
Isnât Trappist the name of that monastery in Belgium where they make that incredible beer? Iâm ready to move there now.
Try the Trappist Abbey of Gethsemani in Trappist, KYâŚCheese, fudge and even religious stuffâŚHome of the great Thomas Merton.

Earth is an accident. Deal with it.
Heh. The Flintstones as a history book.
Forty light years is still a far piece at the pokey speeds of our current spacecraft. Likely to be the descendants of the initial crew doing the flag planting.
Cheese, fudge and a crucifix. If that doesnât say âKentuckyâ then what does?
Scientists Discover 3 âPotentially Habitableâ Earth-Sized Planets
In descending order of potential for being habitable, they are:
Earth, ca. 2100
Earth, ca. 2150
Earth, ca. 2200
Hey, I saw âThe Martianâ. Colonizing other planets isnât as easy as it sounds.
Has anyone alerted Matt Damon?
Naw, the initial crew will be self-replicating robots, very tiny ones. They might set up a human baby factory after a bit of prep work. They might mutate and decide not to.
Optimistic. With the immanent droughts, crop failures and subsequent wars, weâll be lucky to get out of this half of the century alive. Especially if we keep electing neoliberals and neocons.
Catholic robots?
Why must every science report in popular media be larded with jokes and snark? In high school the cool kids are too cool to take anything seriously or apply themselves, but in my opinion mathematics and science represent pinnacles of human achievement and should be treated with more respect.
