Welcome to the “Republican Shutdown” of government. They have the White House, a majority in both houses of Congress and can’t govern.
Left unprotected Trump could do with a good blanket party.
“remember, it’s just a bad dream, fat boy.”
Not sure if this is a good idea. Why don’t they show up and put forth the Dem position, factually and clearly?
He already tweeted he was not going to work with them
Run for office- the 2018 elections are less than a year away! And if Trump and Louie Gohmert can get elected what’s to stop a qualified candidate?
Become a Precinct Committee Officer, sometimes it’s a Ward officer. You’ll meet with neighborhood Dems and get out the vote. Find good citizens willing to run for office.
Register people to vote. If you need to help people overcome the GOP-led Voter run-around help them do that.
Run for School Board. Make sure Civics is being properly taught. Think a majority of America knows how government works? Just 26% of eligible voters in America voted for Trump and half of eligible voters stayed home last November. Today’s 12-year olds will be voting for President in 8 years.
Run for Mayor, City Council, County Commissioner, Borough Assembly.
Get appointed to your Planning Commission. Know everything going on in your community.
Run for State Legislature or Congress. The next census is in 2020, just over 2 years from now, when we redraw Congressional Districts.
And get rid of GERRYMANDERING! Safe GOP seats gave us such intellectual giants as Louie Gohmert and Steve King. In most cases it’s the state Legislature that draws Congressional boundaries. Make it FAIR, OPEN and HONEST! We can do this!
Overturn Citizens United. Money is NOT speech and Corporations are NOT people- at least not until Texas executes one, and overturn any voter ID laws that are clearly an attempt to disenfranchise the poor and people of color.
.
“If you’re disappointed by your elected officials, grab a clipboard, get some signatures, and run for office yourself.”
-President Barack Obama
Make America America Again!
They need to do more of this.
“Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Tuesday said they will not attend a “show meeting” at the White House…”
Well, OK, but they’re gonna miss the jugglers.
And that seal who honks horns.
And balloons!
Because that would be the smart and appealing thing to do, and Chuck and Nancy would rather play Beltway games with fascists than appeal to actual American voters.
I’m probably being too hard on them, but I do feel like they don’t do enough explaining of actual Democratic positions, which are overwhelmingly popular. Instead of rallying people to oppose Republicans, I truly believe we can get them to support Democrats, because Democrats have good policy goals that are popular and effective.
Bashing Trump and the fascists is still important, don’t get me wrong. But doing so without clearly illuminating how Democrats offer better ideas and policies only adds to the cynicism that is crippling our politics.
Trump freely criticizes people by tweeting (behind their back), but when face to face, he wilts. They could show up and confront the faux President.
“We look forward to continuing to work in good faith, as we have been for the last month, with our Republican colleagues in Congress to do just that.”
Hey you two, I hate to break it to you, but congressional Republicans haven’t been working with anybody in good faith for a long time now.
How do you negotiate with someone who clearly doesn’t even understand the issues? What would be the point? I think he/they know the Democrat’s position on the issues, but it doesn’t matter as the Republicans are hellbent on governing alone.
Just have to wait until the Government almostcshuts doen and they come to the Dems to save their asses.
GOOD. I’m with Sen Schumer and Rep Pelosi on this. For too long they’ve been trying to play nice with that dumbass, immature child itrump. He has absolutely no interest in the job nor bringing people together. After almost a year in office he’s still lobbing insults on twitter and even in official meetings (i.e. with Code Talkers). It really is a waste of time to sit with that clown and I applaud them for finally putting their foot down and going on record in recognizing trump just wants a show and nothing more.
Bravo Nancy and Chuck.
I’m pretty sure they’re far more aware of that than even we are. But the media has very different rules for Democrats and Republicans. Democrats must be seen as tirelessly willing to keep coming back to the negotiation table, or else they’re not willing to be bipartisan. How many times did we hear some media type complain that Obama wasn’t reaching out enough? I bet if you added up the minutes, Chuck Todd probably devoted a month of his life repeating that talking point. So, I really don’t think it’s fair to knock them for at least pretending to be willing to negotiate.
Finally a smart move by the Democrats, all he would have done is lied to you and then run to the Morons in the Morning and lie about how you won’t work with him, the greatest president the world has ever seen.
A million likes. This illusion of “good faith” is one of the huge problems of the entrenched Democratic leadership.
It pisses me off to no end when people say, “Dems just aren’t working hard enough to get their message across!!!”
Oh yeah, motherfucker? How do you expect Dems to get their message across when every interview and panel discussion on the MSM news shows invites 37 Republicans and one or no Dems to participate?
Outstanding move! Call this guy’s bluff more often.
When Joe Lieberman endorsed John McCain, he ceased being a Democrat.
And don’t forget the dancing dogs and the guy with the spinning plates. And Topo Gigio! And Senor Wences! (Christ, I can still make “Ed Sullivan Show” references. Fuck, I’ve gotten old!)
