Excellent initiative. Schumer starting to show his teeth.
Uh oh! Looks like you’ll have to @ him again, Mr. President-for-now. Call him Crying Chuck, that really makes you look sane and secure.
Those questions will trap him against Sessions and or Trump. Can’t see him responding to them.
I’ll be stunned if the AG doesn’t prevent Rod from answering any questions at all. They are really consistent on thinking Congress is not a co-equal branch of the government.
Let me make this abundantly clear-
ANY answers given by Trump* Regime officials to ANY question about the current investigation that are NOT under oath are MEANINGLESS.
And may be meaningless even when under oath…except to the degree that they can be confirmed or disproven by other sources. In other words, I wouldn’t put it past some of these people to deliberately lie under oath.
To emphasize the obvious, we have to go through this part of the process to accumulate the lies and distortions that we can then highlight to get at the truth–and to cow conspirators into informing up the ladder. So many conspirators, so many lies, so much opportunity.
Let’s just hope this doesn’t fall into the “sternly worded letter” category that results in nothing.
How do Sessions or Trump keep Rosenstein from answering these questions without triggering impeachment for one or both of them? I’m not saying that Republicans in Congress will suddenly become patriots and demand Trump’s dismissal, but a blank refusal would surely make the idea of impeachment a live issue, not a theoretical one. At least I hope so. Although I’d rather get Rosenstein’s honest answers.
If I were Rosenstein (and I’m glad I’m not, because I’d be looking forward to a long time in one of Dante’s less pleasant circles) I would decline to answer those questions on advice of counsel. Some of them are perjury traps, some of them request confirmation of what could be felonious acts by other persons, some fall into both categories. And there are no answers that will look good while comporting with that other sources will undoubtedly lead.
IANAL, so can someone answer this: is it possible to be convicted for obstruction of justice or witness tampering even if there’s no underlying crime proven?
Always go after the weakest of the pack first. Well done, Sen. Schumer.
Perjury’s a good crime to put them away for…
