Discussion: Schock Reimburses Costs For 'Downton Abbey' Office Decor

Discussion for article #233788

Still sounds like ethics questions remain for Rep Shock. But of course with repugs in charge of the house, this will never be explored.

Can Rep. Schock sing show tunes by heart?

The redecorating costs don’t really bother me - Congresscritters are allowed to spend some money to redecorate. The fact that it’s tasteless shouldn’t enter into it.

The other ethics questions are the real meat, where overly-cozy relationships with campaign donors are involved.

“There, I have done my part,” Mr. Schock later said. “Worthless peasants,” he added in an unguarded moment.

If he and his (now fired for racist comments) pr guy hadn’t overreacted to the original Washington Post story, it would have been a one-day wonder of a lighthearted feature page article with some chuckles about the Downton Abbey office. I wonder what the people in Peoria think about their dashing congressman now?

What?!?!?!
He didn’t pay in tuppence?!?!?

The Dowager Countess sniffed, “Our sort don’t pay someone else to furnish one’s home, only Trade does that sort of thing.”

Fickle Con epitomized.

Schock will enter the room carrying a tray of schadenfreude, a dish best served cold.

It’s ugly, as is the set of Downton Abbey. Overstuffed and privileged represented in it.

Wait a minute. Didn’t the original reporting on this say the decorator donated her services?

If a Democrat had pulled this stunt, you can be dollars to doughnuts that the GOP would be HOWLING for his head. But it’s lucky that Rep Schock is a Republican because everybody knows, if you’re a Republican it’s ok to be a criminal.

And “Euro Trash”? Seriously?

Bob McDonnell gave his gifts back too. It didn’t make taking them less illegal or unethical.

The guy has more than one office and has decorated them too, he is basically partying on campaign donations and has been caught. The investigation is on going because Schock is a Schmuck, so penalties are due way beyond just reimbursement, which is a no-brainer.
Schock needs to be censured or removed from office. He has lost all credibility and who knows where the money is coming from, or came from, that he is paying back with. It damned sure isn’t his salary.

There needs to be real consequences.
