Absolutely.

Donnie Two Scoops is turning us into a banana republic.

Trump probably has drafts of pardons written out for a dozen or more people by now.

Using the term “Banana Republic” is blatant product placement for clothing sold by Ms Trump. Please replace with the phrase “Third World Shit-hole”.

Combined with the way that he continues to divide us, you’ve got the makings for a nice banana split.

Trump: “So, keep lying and covering up. I’ve got you covered.”

He’s right, but I question whether he’ll actually hand out those pardons. Anyone who is pardoned can then be compelled to testify under oath and they can’t plead the fifth. If they lie then that generates a new charge. I could see him wanting to make it appear as though he’ll pardon his coconspirators in hopes they’ll keep their mouths shut.

Also, i just can’t imagine that Bob Mueller isn’t in semi-regular contact with Eric Schniderman, AG of NY, as well as the Attorneys General of DC, NJ, and VA. I would think he’s also looking at violations of state law that he could turn over to the respective AG if his investigation gets shit canned.

But, we know where the nuts come from.

First of all, Schiff is digging directly at President Unforced Errors hoping for a retaliatory blunder…
Secondly, he’s maxing the benefit from the House the best he can. It’s been crippled from the beginning.
We’re going to Mueller, the state folks, and possibly the Senate(whre Burr and the others seem reluctant to interfere) for the win.

One thing the experienced specialists on Mueller’s team are good at is cutting off escape routes for potential informants.

And 25? Maybe Trump will start firing Cabinet members to improve his chances there.

Forces of good will still triumph over Donnie’s flailing.

Will we see preemptive pardons for perjury and lying to the FBI and other federal investigators - before the questioning even takes place? Is it even possible?

Gaming it out here. Let’s say:

Mueller has a deal in place with Flynn to roll on Donnie Two Scoops in exchange for a reduced charge on some Russia-related felony. Now Flynn backs out.

Mueller indicts Flynn on the original felony. Donnie pardons him in advance, without even waiting for the trial.

GOP senators are “very concerned,” but the WH (and Fox News) points out that the pardon power is absolute. The Democrats scream for impeachment on obstruction of justice. Donnie goes on TV and gives a prepared speech about the interests of justice and the reputation of the great patriot Mike Flynn.

The next morning, he tweets: “As I said before, this whole thing with Trump and Russia, it’s a witch hunt, and everybody says so!” and then "To keep our focus on Making America Great Again, I will not let the D prosecutor Miller [sic] attack my family and team. #BlanketPardon “MovingOn #MAGA”

OK, at this point the only remedy is impeachment. My question is: Does this move the needle enough, at long last?

I tried to game things out in another reply, but to the question of bringing obstruction charges if pardoned witnesses refuse to testify: Can’t Donnie just continue to issue pardons? I don’t see that sequence of events ending until he’s out of office and the pardon pen is wrested from his tiny hand.

Anyone who gets pardoned no longer has the ability to use the 5th Amendment and can be compelled to testify AGAINST the motherfucker.

Pardons could well backfire. If the threat of a criminal prosecution has been removed, the person pardoned can no longer refuse to answer on 5th Amendment grounds. The failure to respond would subject that pardoned individual to potential prosecution, since there would be no legal basis for a refusal to answer. So, maybe the pardoned person does not go to jail for their actions in the Russia case, but they are open to prosecution for a different reason.

Probably not. The only way that a Republican Congress will impeach Trump is if his poll numbers get so low that their careers are jeopardized. And right now, 80% of Republicans support Trump. And I’m not the least bit optimistic that the Dems will take back the House in 2018, let alone the Senate. It’s more likely that Trump will resign or die in office from too many KFC dinners washed down with Diet Coke.
