He should be subpoenaed quickly, don’t give him two weeks to think about voluntarily testifying, that simply plays into tRump’s hands. The stalling on getting the truth out has to stop, the only way it happens is with hearings in the House, as Barr has shown he is going for top-rated tRump Toady
And then I hope Trump orders Mueller not to comply with the subpoena, since he was working for the Executive Branch when he conducted the investigation and wrote the report … or some such nonsense.
Now that would make for a fine and interesting Infrastructure Week.
Mueller does not want to testify but he will. Mueller knows this. I doubt it require a subpoena. Schiff was as clear and concise about this as I’ve heard him.
Mueller has centered us the ball. Now it’s time for us to score…
This could happen pretty quickly because Nunes is also on board with this -along with release of the underlying documents. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say I don’t think he’s thought this through.
Seems to me he is playing the same game Trump played on him, that is no face to face interrogation, that worked so well for Trump.
It’s a cult!
Think Kyle meant “consistent with…” there.
All of this reluctance -Mueller’s reluctance to testify, Pelosi’s reluctance to impeach, House Committees seemingly slow-walking subpoenas -is in marked contrast to how Republicans gleefully savaged President Clinton in an overwrought manner.
This approach makes sense because when you have the goods, you don’t have to bang the table. And, ultimately, I think the American people will appreciate this “more in disappointment than anger” approach, and will lead to a more organic call and a swelling of support from the general public for consequences.
Oh, you know he will. Consovoy and Bilious Barr are preparing the argle bargle and legal jiggery pokery as I type.
They have, indeed, been subjugated to the t rumpp brand.
C’mon now — give the man some time to decompress. We need him to be his sharp, laconic, formidable self. He needs a week by the pool with a stack of books to read.
Even if the report speaks for itself there is a big difference between writing the report and making the same statements under oath. There is also a big difference between making a nuanced argument about charging Trump with obstruction centered around DoJ policy and answering a simple, direct question.
Indeed. There are still questions the report did not address. (Hint: Barr and Rosenstein.)
Not to mention, the republican spinning of Mueller’s statement requires further clarification directly from Mueller, as does the fact that the report has been redacted.
Reframe like Donnie Deutsch offered. Call them criminal hearings.
Will this be the understatement of the year?
Yes. Anyone who has ever taught knows very well that people do not absorb very much from the written word. If you want people to actually understand a text you have to state and reformulate verbally the main points—multiple times.
And this is when people have actually read the material! The idea that a substantial portion of the population—or even of the media—will have read and digested a highly complex 448 page document? It’s utterly mad.
Apparently:
Schiff To Push For Subpoenaing Mueller
and:
[Schiff said] that he would recommend subpoenaing special counsel Robert Mueller
Â
The man is chair of House Intelligence.
Someone ask him what he’s “pushing” against.
Or to whom he’s making his “recommendation.”
It’s my understanding that Mueller doesn’t necessarily want to testify and if he does, he will simply reiterate the report his team put together.
Having said that, the visual of having Mueller describe what’s in his report alone would be a powerful statement.
ETA: I think the regime knows this and use Barr’s substantial DOJ weight as a battering ram against it.
