From a quick look at the 1976 statute, I’m skeptical about whether the courts will allow such a lawsuit, let alone issue a stay. A remedy exists for improper declarations of emergency and that remedy is for Congress to undo the declaration. Citizens have the option to lobby their Senators, so the courts might toss a citizen lawsuit on the basis that courts should not be doing the job of Congress.
I wonder, however, if there might be a legal basis for forcing the Senate to vote. McConnell would be depriving citizens of their access to this remedy if he refuses to allow a vote. If that were to happen, it would be a wonderful precedent since it would deprive McConnell of the main weapon he has for shielding GOP senators from the consequences of taking a stand on controversial legislation.

Now…about “impeaching” (de-fanging) President McConnell…we should have been talking about that 24/7. But…crickets from most quarters.

I gotta say, I love hearing Schiff’s take on things. Always serious as a heart attack, factual, logical, straightforward and then just a hint of snark. His twitter feed is pure gold. He gives me hope that we have enough smart people in Congress we might be able to beat back the trumpian monster and his parasites.

There is a national emergency, but it’s in Britain and it’s happening right now. Americans, victimized by the innovative manipulations of Cambridge Analytica et al., really should be looking to see what the tailspin of democracy looks like. Unless the Brits do something by March 28, they are looking at a 10% loss of GDP and stranding of people and assets in 27 countries. The Mother of Own Goals.

Damn good idea. This is the kind of hardball the Dems need to start playing.
Could someone explain to me on the Lump’s daily schedule there’s an item in Yellow that says, “In-Town Pool Call Time”. It’s there many days and is often the only thing listed and I can’t seem to find out what it means.
Does it mean he goes swimming in town that day?
