Discussion: Schiff Acknowledges Temporary Peace With DOJ, Says He Still Wants Mueller’s Testimony

So the full set of documents regarding requests for 12 categories sets Schiff says will be provided by next week. Its looking like it’ll be provided then at the earliest by June 1st, which will be the last day of next week. We shall see. Or is it we may see, or maybe not?

Your faith is stronger than mine when it comes to any of these pukes following through on any promise to comply. I have no illusions something will not meet expectations as planned. We’ve been here before…and its called being strung along. Its a childish game of Schiff seemingly still playing catch as catch can imo. Barr should’ve and could’ve provided that shit yesterday. He’s known about those requests and been asked to provide those documents for basically close to two months now.

Your criticism of my criticism would be fair if this were February 2019. It is not February 2019. Schiff has been chairman of the Intelligence Committee for almost half a year now. However, I do want to amend my statement in one aspect. 90 days from now would actually fall during the August recess, so the subpoena vote won’t take place until 120 days from now. All other aspects of the timeline remain the same.

I could be wrong. But I’m not.

You know Schiff’s just loving the hell out of this, he’s a happy warrior in his element.

Oh, well that settles it!

Yep. Ever notice how Schiff and Kamala Harris have the same kind of closed-lip smile when a witness is lying to them?

It’s the former-prosecutor smile of “keep talking, motherfucker. Just. Keep. Talking.”

I was wondering if perhaps DisBarr Bill* is more than a little worried about being held in contempt and, along with Mnuchin, ultimately impeached.

No, I’m not naive enough to think the Senate Politburo would convict and remove either of them, but it’s still a pretty thick stain.

“This is a lot harder than the Iran-Contra cover-up.”

*h/t to whoever thought up that moniker.

Yes, it’s a fine thing to watch, I can practically see their hands under the table, paying out the rope.

Well, all I can say is, we’ll see. I haven’t got a crystal ball but if what’s past is prologue, I’m on terra firma.

I’m usually one that is all for hope that springs eternal but lately…Nah. Not feeling it today. Sorry if that bothers you.

The materials are due while Congress is on recess. If Trump henchman Barr violates the deal, Schiff left open contempt (and any resulting enforcement action). Schiff is doing his job.

Trump Henchman Barr isn’t a complete fool. Schiff plays a stronger hand, and is keeping the threat of contempt — and any resulting enforcement remedies — as a tool. If Barr violates the deal, Schiff has an ironclad argument in court to go after Barr financially and personally.

Trust Schiff on this.

Pretty sure we’ve all found ourselves there from time to time this past 2+ years.

Recess, huh? Sounds about right. Republicans taking off to go play on the teeter-totters, have another game of dodge ball with constituents, and climbing on the jungle gym to escape the cameras.

I like Schiff. Have no qualms with how he’s doing his job in the House. He’s been exemplary and doing his best with the cards he’s been dealt. I just think he’s dealing with bad-faith actors up and down the Barr-led phalanx that leads to tRump. To not take into consideration that somehow he’s caught in a loop having to play this game with regards to those repeated House requests, is silly. Of course, I hope Barr follows through. I just know they’ll end up being a wrinkle or two, if not a huge hole in the space-time continuum at the end of the day when time’s up. Something is sure to come up short. I hope Schiff is prepared when that happens…and not with “let’s try this one, one more time”.

If I sound pessimistic, its because I am. I don’t mean to bring anyone else here down. I just don’t feel the optimism from this concession. It was mandatory from the start.

Thanks. A little empathy in this cruel world we find ourselves in these days goes a long way. Much appreciated.

I want to make the point that the reason that Barr backed off today is because of the credible threat of impeachment that’s specifically mentioned in the Judiciary Committee’s contempt resolution re: Barr. Barr could not afford for Schiff to issue a second such resolution from Intel. It would’ve accelerated the point to where Pelosi had to commit to impeachment. The credible threat of impeachment hearings, including the willingness to use it, is absolutely necessary to deal with a crook like Trump and minions like Barr.

Actually, that works for me. My go-to panacea. Good suggestion.

But, but, but…I thought tRump wants Pelosi and the Dems to announce impeachment proceedings of some sort. That’s what the punditocracy is claiming. That trump wants it so he can run against it in 2020.

Or, it’s a “Please don’t throw me into the briar patch” sort of thing in reverse.

Trump may be saying he wants it, and perhaps even thinking he wants it, but if he actually gets it I doubt he will like the way it turns out.
