Discussion: Scarborough: 'It Sure Seems' Like Enquirer Still Doing Trump's Dirty Work

And this is news to whom, exactly?

“It’s now a matter of public knowledge that the National Enquirer and American Media was in bed with Donald Trump and working on his behalf. I guess the question is would they continue it after striking deal as they have with the Southern District?” MSNBC’s Willie Geist asked.

Salacious stories are the Enquirer's business model. How the hell is it a mystery they'd continue in that vein? They were in hot water for their dealings with Trump, not other stories they published or were pursuing. What do Geist and Morning Joe think was going to happen, the Enquirer was going to become a cooking magazine?

No, but I think the expectation is there are many other ‘targets’ they could support without having to support Trump, which is what got them in hot water to begin with.

It’s kinda like not learning from your mistakes and how stupid is the Enquirer really to think this would not be noticed.

The Enquirer should start playing it safe, and move into the niche formerly occupied by the Weekly World News.

It’s news to know-it-all Republicans, apparently.

Well I would think in this time of self promotion, ‘stars’ controlling their messaging and image on Twitter, Instagram, and other outlets that the National Enquirer can’t harass them like they used to.

If you ever watched what is picking up the Enquirer, taking it home , believing everything they read,or have someone read it to them, you would understand the Enquirer is playing to it’s base.
These are people who make me look like I have a PHD.

Figure Enquirer had - as a favor to Trump - long been building and investing in acquiring content for, a huge dirt dossier on Bezos - as a result, they were in possession of info that may have put them ahead of the curve - they probably did know that Bezos marriage was in free fall - so when it looked like the richest man in the country was going to end up in a divorce - they could not resit using their info to jump in on it .
It is their nature - what were they going to do - recuse themselves?

So, Walmart is paying the Enquirer to take down Amazon to help them in the online retail industry.

Makes sense to me.

That said, i don’t like hit jobs like this at all, and think they are a very unique form of evil.,But still, with regard to Jeff Bezos, i have a hard time feeling any sympathy for the guy. This news changes nothing for me. This news is meant only to ruin his life, and that is a reflection more on the Enquirer than on Bezos. So what if it’s true?! The intent is to cause serious emotional injury. Does anyone gain anything by publicly exposing his adultery, other than his wife, who now stands to be awarded a hundred billion dollars in a divorce settlement? She already had 2X that amount before learning about this. Nothing gained by anyone beyond sadistic satisfaction.

But it’s WHO they choose to go after is still interesting.

CONSIDERING the consent they have wit SDNY I wonder if HRC has grounds to sue for ‘actual’ ‘provable’ malice in their reporting.

I actually stopped in line (long line) at Smiths and began looking for the story on the Brad/Angelina divorce and then realized under no circumstances was I going to BUY their POS crap-fest so I put it down.

Listen, Bezos and his wife appear to be handling their split-up as well as anybody can so it’s NONE OF MY BUSINESS.

And I know it’s NONE of my business.

It’s a big world, and Trump is tangentially connected to hundreds of notable personalities, business people, politicians, etc, many of them publicly opposed to him or his policies. Is the Enquirer supposed to vet every story with the thought “Better lay off this one, he/she is anti-Trump and publishing it will raise eyebrows and raise suspicions”?

Read the article in this week’s New Yorker about Orban and how he does things in Hungary. He was Trump before Trump, though far smarter (a rock would be). Scary…

The Enquirer lost all credibility when they refused to follow the alien bat-child escape story. Disgraceful.

They’ve been covering for Trump since the 80s without being paid off (they seemed to have made most of their actual money by blackmailing celebrities to keep scandals under wraps - Bill Cosby paid them quite a lot to not reveal all his raping). We all know there’s something highly suspicious about their dealings with Trump; I personally suspect it goes back to Russia as well. Kinda hope Mueller gets a good excuse to seize and crack open their vaults to find out all they’ve been up to.

Why would they stop, it has been very profitable for them which is all that matters.

the ENQUIRER had my full support when they were reporting on BAT-BOY, apparently, BAT-BOY was seen frequently in PALM BEACH county…and was a menace to residents…we beat him back…but then DONNIE bought MARA LAGO and BAT -BOY was on the loose again…and once again., ignanas were falling out of the rest…and the rest is history…….

“It sure seems like water is wet,” said the last talk show host on the planet to catch on.

I don’t think that’s the dynamic. The WH contacts the Enquirer directly and suggests stories to include or omit. Because of their mutual heinousness, David Pecker agrees. Mika reported that they got many calls from the WH threatening to trash them with nasty Enquirer stories unless they flattered trump more effusively.

It’s not random. WaPo owner Bezos has been a target of trump’s wrath for a few years now.
