Judiciary Chairman Larry Martin supports the bill, saying he doesn’t
want “cross-dressers” going into a bathroomwith his granddaughters.

He went on to emphasize, “Because they might get cooties!”

Would someone prominent in a major news organization please book one of the Reps pushing these transgender bathroom bills. please? During the interview ask for a single citation of a transgender person assaulting, harassing, molesting or raping someone else in the restroom. Just one verifiable citation. Goddamn, journalism isn’t that freaking difficult.

‘It’s A Public Safety Issue’’

No. Not in any way that isn’t covered by existing law.

We’re told every day how there is no GOP establishment any more…so, what agency is coordinating all these absurd yet nearly identical state legislative efforts across the South?

If you cannot wrap your brain around the reason this is such a hot-button issue for the Fundies, here is the explanation.
You have to THINK like a Male Reich-Wing Republican to understand it. To them, it is personal. They look at is this way;
“If I get a boner seeing a good-looking woman walk out of a woman’s bathroom and it turns out to be a MAN, does that make me Gay?”
That is the actual thought process that goes into this. They see a hot chick, get a boner, find out it is a Trans-Male, and then cannot process the resulting cognitive dissonance of getting hard looking at a MAN, so they lash out to make sure it never happens again.
Trust me on this one.

Such a rampant problem. How is this sort of thing enforced? Would it happen anyway? I mean criminals are likely to use whatever bathroom they want to use so why bother passing laws. Wait…

So we need to be sure that the person standing next to my kid in the bathroom is who they say they are, but making sure that the person standing next to my kid in the bathroom is actually allowed to carry a gun is a no go?

Republican legislators are a public safety issue not the LGBT community.

While they’re asking, they ought to look up the death rate for transgenders due to violence. It may shed some light on what the ‘public safety’ issue is.

And not even about actual men. About women who used to be men.

Freud would have a lot to say about modern Republicans’ unhealthy obsession with the reproductive organs…

“I’m going to focus on the free-market approach,” said Bryant, R-Anderson. “It’s not the government’s role to tell businesses how to configure their bathrooms.”

I don’t think that English means what you think it means.

I just find it difficult to imagine these men capable of an erection…

Wouldn’t it be lovely if we could get some of this Republican enthusiasm for protecting women from other women (who happen to be trans) directed toward protecting women from men? Like the Violence Against Women Act?

Lolololol.

You must not be a RentBoy.

Steve Sack is a great political cartoonist. Glad he’s with my hometown paper.

What is it with right-wingers and their total cluelessness about how the world works? Are they all worshipping a holy book–the Bible, the Fountainhead, Mein Kampf, or the NRA manual–that precludes them from perceiving reality clearly? Or do they just not get out much?

The idea that a child molester who is not stopped from entering a bathroom of the opposite gender to rape someone by laws against pedophilia and rape carrying severe penalties would somehow be stopped by a law forbidding transgender people from using one bathroom or the other is ludicrous on the face of it. Some of them are stupid as posts, the others are deeply, deeply cynical, disrespecting everyone: transgender people by demeaning and harassing them, their own supporters by feeding them bullshit, and the rest of us by insulting our intelligence.
