Wow. This is so awesomely corrupt and clumsy.
Straight from the Dennis Kozlowski playbook (TYCO CEO who had a $6,000 shower curtain)

PAY TO PLAY - Evidence for ongoing cases?

Ya know, what strikes me–and it has struck me repeatedly since ABSCAM–is how cheaply politicians can be bought. $270,000 for the leader of the Free World? Peanuts!

People who organized the trip told the Post that they chose the Trump Hotel because it offered a discount.

Because it offered a discount. Never even heard of this Trump person you mention.

That was just in the beginning of tRump’s Admin. How many more Saudis have stayed and paid? A current update would be good.

You don’t get a real leader, just an ersatz…

Saudis booked 500 rooms…because of course they did!

Guess we can take some hope that the emoluments case keeps on chugging…

OT. Tweet mentioned by Stephanie Ruhle this morning,

“I Shot The Tariff, But I Did Not Shoot The Subsidy.”

This cartoon is true, but the artwork is racist.

Worse yet, the ersatz isn’t even chicory. It’s roasted sawdust.

You are right in general. But in this case this is just one month there have been 23 months since, and I bet there were more that a few bookings as well in all of those.

But I believe that the biggie was the bailout of Kushner’s 666 Fifth Ave.Some mysterious foreign investment fund came and paid 1.1 billion in advance rent.

Agreed. Not defending it.

Proving up the public’s belief that they are just “Cheap Politicians.”

At least some of my old time political 'acquaintances" could never be called “cheap dates.” When they took a bribe, it was large enough to be a real crime.

From the WaPo article:

In late September, Congress had overridden a veto from President Barack Obama and passed a law the Saudis vehemently opposed: the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, called JASTA. The new law, backed by the families of Sept. 11 victims, opened the door to costly litigation alleging that the Saudi government bore some blame. Of the 19 hijackers involved in the attacks, 15 were Saudi citizens.

I couldn’t imagine how vets could be talked into opposing this law and lobbying Congress to overturn it. Then I kept reading.

Veterans said they were told that the new law might cause other countries to retaliate and might lead to U.S. veterans being prosecuted overseas for what their units had done in war. They were given a few fact sheets — including one with small print at the bottom, reading “This is distributed by Qorvis MSLGROUP on behalf of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia.”

But this is hilarious. Even dumb republicans steered clear of the lobbying efforts.

Another problem: In some cases, congressional staffers confronted them because they knew who was funding these trips.

Even if the veterans did not.

“We’d walk in there, and they’d go, ‘Are you the veterans that are getting bribed?’ ” Suesakul said.

Trump Groupon offer: Buy 500 hotel rooms, get to kill one journalist.

This also calls out the ‘shitty’ pill we were forced to swallow. Let’s say Trump’s accountants are BETTER than his lawyers (since he only hires the best) and they ‘properly’ calculate profit vs. revenue for these bookings. That’s a raw deal, because we’re paying down his mortgage…as that’s in the cost. So maybe he doesn’t count a profit, but his principal (and equity increases). This is total shit. There is simply no way he doesn’t win in this transaction.
