So these disasters regularly happen with this event? It would behoove the government of Saudi Arabia to do something to prevent these kinds of disasters.
My condolences to the families of the dead pilgrims. This sad because these deaths are completely preventable.
What other religion has events were large numbers of people are regularly crushed to dead in a frenzy to reach a specific holy spot?
Read up on the Hajj. And what it means to Muslims. 2 million people are in Mecca now for this. The Saudi Gov’t in order to make the “stoning of the devil” toss pebbles at 3 pillars, safer invested $1.2 billion to reconstruct that area and make it safer. But when you have millions all of whom are anxious and in a hurry then bad things will happen.

The Kumba Mela gathering in India which occurs every 12 years has had disasters as well.
If I were a conspiracy type I would find it significant that a construction crane crashed at the Grand Mosque in Mecca … on Sept. 11th.

Wow, your arrogance shines. What makes you think I haven’t read about the hajj? It’s been happening for 1,300 years. I would have thought that, in that time, those folks watching over the holy sites would have taken some safety precautions.

But your 1st post led me to think you didn’t know about the money/work the Saudi’s have done in an attempt to improve safety which apparently is still going on as there are construction cranes all over the place around the Grand Mosque and in Mina.

It is time to make the mosques in Mecca and Medina an independent principality like the Vatican so that all muslims Shia, Druze, Alawi, Sunni, Ahmaddiya, Sufi, Itnashari, Nation of Islam, Khwarij feel represented in the holiest shrines of islam.
The authoritarian Saudi regime represents a virulently toxic and barbaric form of islam called Wahabbi islam that is the inspiration and funding source for evil jihadi terrorist groups like al Qaeda, Taliban, ISIS and others. Even during this Hajj the Wahabbi sunnis of Saudi Arabia are killing thousands of Shias in Yemen. The Saudis have desecrated holy places around the mosques and have no moral or religious standing given their role and that of radicalized Wahabbi jihadi sunnis in terrorism.
A principality that represents men and women from all sects and cults of islam should be in charge. This tragedy is not an isolated one and it should drive fundamental change in the way the mosques are run.
