Discussion: Satanic Coloring Book Prompts Fla. School To Ban Religious Materials

Discussion for article #233150

Yet again, the Satanic Temple folks sound 100% more sane, thoughtful and articulate than the Christian religio-fascists. Strange days indeed…

Well, there you go.

“Frankly, I think, myself, that it was a mistake that we ever let World Changers distribute Bibles in our schools,” school board chair Bob Sublette (pictured above) said at the board meeting Tuesday."

That took balls. Is he already looking for a new job or what?

Works for me. Kudos to the Satanic Coloring Book illustrators and their benefactors. Mission Accomplished.

“We would never seek to establish a precedent of disseminating our religious materials in public schools because we believe our constitutional values are better served by respecting a strong separation of Church and State,” he said.

More like this, please. An excellent and reasonable statement.

Good for them.

So if I understand this correctly, the Fundies got their asses beaten by a coloring book?

Well done!

If it had been a comic book, the fundies on the board would have gotten The Vapors.

According to Pratchett and Gaiman…most Satanists are pretty laid back.

Doug Mesner, co-founder and spokesman for The Satanic Temple, said in a September statement under the pseudonym Lucien Greaves…

Hell, if I were a member of the Satanic Church, my pseudonym would be Lucifer Mark O’ Beast.

Strange indeed, which just lets me know that these hard fundie types are not confident in their beliefs. They can’t handle anyone presenting an opposing view. I was raised in a Christian household, that went to church twice a week. My mother encouraging me to always question things and explore elsewhere if I didn’t like the answers I received, is what led to my atheism.

Meh. Based on the few I’ve known, it looks to me like some of them are just hipster angry atheists who think being “a Satanist” is funny because it’s the most offensive to religious people thing that they can possibly claim to be. Some of them are just in it to get laid. And then there are the ones who take it very seriously. And that latter bunch are invariably among the scariest fucking people you will ever meet.

Taken as a whole, they’re like libertarians–they can sound sane for up to five consecutive minutes and then suddenly they take a hard screeching U-Turn into Coocooberg.

Where are the “teach both sides of the controversy and let the kids decide” proponents now?

It wasn’t a mistake it was a violation of the law and the rights of the people you serve. Those Founders were some crafty dudes weren’t they? They foresaw the shit you bring down on yourself when you do things like you did so they prohibited it. Go with Jefferson or Adams the next time some fool gives you advice.
