I think this almost goes to Josh’s point about Sanders having such strong DNC support. Notice Santorum didn’t say it sounded like Hillary! I think Sanders got promised a megaphone to blast his message to an unprecedented national audience and drag the Overton window to the left in exchange for giving Hillary exactly this kind of left-flank cover from repugs as they grasp for a metaphorical villain with which to tear each other down. Of course, that only raises his profile further. It’s a win-win between him and Hillary, without the real divisions that a Warren run might have created. If I’m right, this is some of the smartest politics I’ve ever seen in my life.
