Thank you, Senator Murphy. But as long as politicians are in the pockets of the NRA, nothing will be done about gun violence.

The NRA headquarters are in Northern Virginia, very close to DC. Does anyone know if there has ever been a vigil/protest staged there? Would be nice to surround the building for a few weeks and shame the employees going in and out the same way the anti-abortion crowd surrounds women’s clinics.

“We are the only country in the world that looks at this rate of slaughter, which is unprecedented amongst industrialized first world countries, and throws our hands up and says we can’t do anything!” Murphy said.

or are afraid to, because most congressional members are afraid of the consequences.

Louder for those in the back, please!

Be careful what you wish for. If most of Congress were to start actually talking about this, they’d be advocating for MORE guns.

Thank you Senator Murphy!

You are absolutely correct. The pandering by Congress (Primarily by the GOP.) to the NRA is the most visible example of how money has put Congress in the pockets of special interests. The same applies to environmental/energy policies, health/pharmaceutical/agricultural policies, defense policies, and the list goes on. But the most blatant example of disregard for human life is the inaction and fear of action on the whole gun issue.

He nails it. Good for him. All these elected reps that refuse to take any action to reign in our nation of terror, have look on their hands.

Congress’ inaction…Congress’ silence

He’s right but nothing will happen until sensible gun owners begin taking on the crazy gun owners. Actual gun legislation is only going to happen when the gun loving community themselves demand the change, it’s about time those in that community that want it begin speaking to their own crowd.

But…but…their penises!

So The Gov.of Virginia goes to visit and console the TV station people where the slain reporter and cameraman worked. Did he even think to call the grieving parents and relatives much less visit and comfort them?? I’ve seen nothing on that yet.
Edit
Cyberduckie points out that the guv did speak to the relatives.

The father of Alison Parker specifically mentioned speaking to the Governor on the phone the day of the shootings. If I remember correctly, the Governor called him. I assume he also spoke with Adam Ward’s family, although I’m not certain.

What’s amusing about the NRA HQ is they have the 2nd Amendment posted in front. Well most of it, except for the sentence “A well regulated militia necessary for a free state”.

Also no guns allowed.

I forgot about that. They are also banned in their convention hall during their annual confab.

I would think the Gov. should do that 1st thing and if he’s anywhere near he should personally visit. And if it were me I’d be going to the state legislature demanding legislation for strengthened universal background checks, a 5 day waiting period and anything else that would be helpful in lessening the epidemic of gun violence. The wild west happened in 1870-1885. It’s long past time for us to frigging grow up.

To begin in congress, we need the real list of where the NRA money goes. It could be a beginning.
Out here in my states gun culture it’s called “communicating”. Which means, filling the cemetaries and private prisons along with a whole bunch of commercials on tv giving the 800 number for a lawyer. Plus there never is a shortage of gun violence news in the morning. EVERY MORNING along with deaths from auto accidents. EVERY MORNING
Yes sir ye, still amazed about 4th of july in nashville. As the fireworks went boom so did the guns shooting straight up.
When the bullets came down the kids and adults that happened to block gravity luckly just bled a little bit from broken collar bones instead of being killed. When I heard the gunfire, grabbed the wife and bailed out. She didn’t beleive me until the next mornings news.
Then the news stopped following it 2 hours into the day.
Senator Murphy is right, but the rest is all about the money, period

Well, like I said, the Governor spoke on the phone with Mr. Parker the day it happened. I don’t know what time, that information hasn’t been given. I understand he just gave a press conference outside the news studio, but I had the television muted at the time so I don’t know what he said. I can say that the Governor of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe, is a Dem, former Chairman of the DNC, and a gun control advocate. I have more faith in him pursuing gun control legislation in his state than I would have a Rep governor.
