How come Caitlin did not mention the Folk album? Huh? Bernie got my vote with that baby. It reminded me of dad trying to sing The Battle Hymn of the Republic during a thunderstorm. Good times

And my dad and I didn’t get along that well.

My accountant is a conservative but willing to discuss issues fairly. When I bring up socialism vis-a-vis Bernie Sanders’ promotion of same, he says you can’t compare a small, homogenous country like Denmark to the United States. In other words, what works for them won’t work for us. I’m thinking, why wouldn’t it work for us? Are we that far down the oligarchy drain that we can’t develop and implement a system of health care for all and higher education for everyone who desires it?

I’m originally from NY so his voice is familiar and comfortable to me. How does his voice play in other parts of the country?

Every time I hear him and his plans I want to switch from Hillary. Do others feel that?

Colbert ends the first clip with something like ¨when you see that man, when you listen to that album, you know that it wasn’t chosen by any focus group¨. That’s a good part of why Sanders is so appealing to me (and, for that matter, why Trump might appeal to some with right-wing politics, I suppose). I am so sick of candidates that have been packaged to the point where they no longer seem human.

We’ve been trained to think it wouldn’t work here. Nothing more.

“You told me this was lean salami! This is not lean!”

All that remains is for Bernie to say, when elected President, he will indict people in the Derivatives affair that almost destroyed our economy.

“I’m not saying they will go to jail and not pass GO. They stole a lot of money. They can afford smart lawyers. But at least someone will be a lot closer to the Concrete Hilton than they are now.”

In brief, no, we’re not.
If we had to from scratch-- perhaps-- but we have the infrastructure in place to do both presently.
It might need a smoother rollout than the ACA’s website-- but that got corrected in short-order too.

Indict them on what? That’s the issue, they didn’t break any laws and those that did are already under indictment. The problem is much of their behavior wasn’t illegal, and the issue is, can Bernie get Congress to pass legislation to make that behavior illegal.

It doesn’t matter what. It doesn’t matter if Congress does anything. It doesn’t matter if they are convicted. It doesn’t matter if they go free. None of that matters. What MATTERS is that they are seen in a courtroom.

Well his track record of passing things in congress isn’t very good.

The flagbot is up and running today, disregard.

If you know anyone with a serious chronic illness — especially, anyone with even a mild cognitive deficit — you know that the privatized system in this country is absolute garbage for people who are lower or middle income. And people of lower or middle income are the vast majority of the US population.

For about 25 million people the ACA is better than what we had (nothing), but please, don’t confuse “better than nothing” with an actual functioning national health care system, the kind that exists in civilized industrialized nations.

Well, we can say that about literally every candidate running for President in this cycle.

I can’t help it. Bernie looks like my gramps trying to rally the workers at the dairy. Get 'em, grampa!

So you want to a trial of a bunch of people just as a show, something for the media to pick up and market around, but it doesn’t matter what they’re being tried for, doesn’t matter if they’re innocent of any actual laws being broken, you just want the visual of seeing people (guilty or not) being tried for something (illegal or not)? Am I understanding you correctly because uh, yeah, that’s not how I want things to operate in this country.

Why liberals consider corporations the bad guys???

Have you heard the things Republican conservatives are saying about Donald Trump, the entrepreneur job creator?

It’s hard to say. Your accountant is right, from an accountant’s view, in that considering the difference in scale between Denmark and the U.S., and considering the unrelenting appetite of capitalism, it would be like an oil tanker making a U turn. The motivations of capitalism seem to always be at odds with progress even though capitalism does indeed bring progress; 5% of the world’s population using 25% of the world’s energy, more access and abundance of food than anywhere else in the world, and basically an abundance of everything. But the problem is not everyone gets to share in this abundance.

But it does work successfully in many of the world’s countries. I would think it can work here as well. Americans with families are starting to figure it out. Health care from your 1st to last breath, free education, more job security, etc. And you don’t have to fight over every last fucking thing, And the Koch Bros are not trying to ruin your life as you know it. Basically what you get is a higher standard of living and if misfortune knocks on your door, someone will be there to help you get up. I’ll take it.
