I´m sure he´s right.

This speculation is stupid. And pandering.

Two (at least) parts to that incident. 1) Would a white woman have been arrested under the same conditions? Probably not. Which leads to 2) death by hanging. Has the cause of the hanging been determined?

Sanders isn’t pandering and he is absolutely right. There is no speculation that African Americans face special problems with dealing with the police or justice system. I’m glad he spoke about this problem and our need to address it.

  1. I dunno. I don´t think it´s stupid to point out the injustice that most of us (?) intuit.

  2. It may be pandering. However, I´d rather hear an appeal to emotion on this issue than, say, the death penalty, or Syrian immigrants.

“Maybe she should have been roughed up because it was absolutely disgusting what she was doing,” Donald Trump said

I love Bernie, but this is a bridge too far.

He has no idea what happened or of the mental state of the woman.

This is the type of knee jerk (emphasis on jerk) reaction that too often is associated with the left and diminishes its effectiveness.

I agree, at least in general. Bernie and Donald are the only 2 candidates who speak forthrightly on every issue, whether totally accurate or correct, or not. All the others: bullshit artists and hypocrites, all of them. Not Bernie and Donald. I would vote for Bernie in a heartbeat but he’s being totally minimized by the MSM / DNC / etc. Too bad, but not surprising.

I call bullshit on this. No idea? It’s public knowledge. This all started because she was pulled over for failing to signal a lane change, something millions of drivers do every damned day in all 50 states of the union, and come to no harm for failure to do so. I know what started this, Bernie knows it, we all know it, it’s been made public. How the hell can you claim Bernie “has no idea what happened”?

Encinia stopped Bland on the afternoon of July 10, 2015, on University Drive[13] in Prairie View, Texas, for failure to signal a lane change.[14][15] In a series of events recorded by his dashcam, Encinia spoke to Bland, the interaction became heated, and he removed her from her car. After they moved out of frame, he placed her on the ground and arrested her.

Get your damned nonsense straight before letting the gibberish roll out of your mouth.

I think if you look solely at the initial traffic incident and the “peace” officer’s actions there, in that context alone Sanders statement is neither “knee jerk” or extreme.

Bullshit. If she’s white, there’s no way she’s in that position to begin with.

Pulled over? Sure. Out-of-state plates mean you screw up a little bit, most cops on a quota system will pull you over for the ticket - out of state plates indicate you won’t be here in a month to fight the ticket.

Told to extinguish the cigarette? Maybe, maybe not. She certainly wouldn’t have been told to get out of the car, and there’s no way in hell the cop threatens to ‘light you up’.

If she’s a white woman, the cop’s far more likely to be non-combative and in de-escalation mode - in part because she’s more likely to be less combative. And that’s not ‘blame the victim’, let’s face it, there’s good reason for her to be defensive and mistrust a cop. The cop’s the one with hundreds of hours of training specifically on how to handle traffic stops and how to de-escalate. He’s the one initiating contact and in control of how the encounter develops just by fact of having the authority, and the weapons. What’s she got? A cigarette?

This is on the cop, and the cop doesn’t escalate to the point of threatening her with a weapon if she’s white.

Ending up in jail after a routine traffic stop is not something most white Americans experience, unless they are obviously intoxicated.

Bland was annoyed at being stopped - it’s all on the video - but she was no threat to the cop at all nor was she high.
That she ended up dead three days later is a remarkable injustice.

Bland was pulled out of her car for not putting her cigarette out.
The cop started pulling her out, then threatened her with the taser.

That is what he meant by Bland resisting arrest.

It was nonsense, which is bad enough, but the woman ended up dead three days later.

He said that Bland would be alive if she was white. Not that the police and justice system treat people differently. The police didn’t kill her. She killed herself.

My issue is with the “Sandra Bland would still be alive if she was white.” Really? Would she be less prone to suicide if she was white? She disobeyed a police order to get out of the car. I’d probably be hauled into jail if I didn’t comply either. Not trying to diminish a real problem with the police, but I think this was the wrong incident to highlight out of the dozens of others where police clearly acted improperly.

I don´t disagree that we don´t know the exact circumstances of her death itself. What I do believe it that her blackness was a factor in her being pulled over, her arrest, and the violence of that arrest. Any one of those factors might have been contributory to that death, even if it were ¨only¨ a suicide.

He’s right and stating an inconvenient truth.

The cops killed her. She didn’t commit suicide. The odds are with me, considering the fascist state of police in Amerika.
