His explanation needs at least 45% more finger wagging and a few more āWall Streetā mentions.
I like Bernie but he has one terrible habit Iād wish heād stop doing. Watch for this the next time in debates. Every single time a moderator asks Hillary a question, Bernie within seconds raise his arm and points his index finger straight upā¦just like a school kid trying to get the teacherās attention! Every-single-time!
This is his technique for taking away at least some of the audienceās attention from the speaker. Itās bad form, maddening and I do believe he does this on purpose.
And old joke: know how to silence an Italian? Tie their arms behind their back!
(Apologies to those of said heritage!).
Iāve wondered how Bernie would react if, every time he raised that finger when another was speaking, the moderator told him to stop it!
I thought waving that finger meant he needed another pee break
Actually, his words did kinda say there were more important things to talk about than choice. Iāll grant thatās probably not what he meant, but thatās what he said, and that makes it fair game in politics.
Wouldnāt it me nice if these two would stop this squabble. They are vying for the Democratic nominationā¦not the Tea Party one. They donāt have to show us how tough they are. Everyone knows that Sanders is a hard core liberal and supports abortion rights. Clinton doesnāt need to imply otherwise. Itās an area they are in complete agreementā¦they donāt need to spat over it.
I like them both. I donāt care which one get the nom Iām going to vote for that person. Iād like to see their stop for a meaningful debate. How are they going to contrast themselves with the GOP assholes if they crib the GOP script?
For the most part, the Clinton campaign has held back any criticisms of Sanders. Both camps wanted to have a civil debate about policies. Lately its begun to feel like the Sanders camp has decided to go negative, and is using the purity meme as a cudgel against Clinton.
Why would they then be surprised that the Clinton camp would take advantage of how Sanders always pivots back to the same issue? He did say that there were more important matters to discuss. Yes, he has voted for reproductive rights, but it is clearly not an issue that he deems āimportantā compared to income inequality or breaking up the big banks. A lot of women are bothered by his laser focus on a few issues, and his assumption that āof courseā heās for reproductive rights, and lets get back to the topic of income inequality.
Yes, that was not a good response at all by Senator Sanders. And perhaps a revealing one. Thereās actually a difference about all the things you vote for, and the things you really care about.
Ugh. I think weād all be better off if our candidates could keep the pettiness level to an absolute minimum. When theyāre grappling over ideas and approaches it makes everyone look good. Lobbing these predictable gotcha things or self-righteous scolding, not so much.
Apparently she thinks she does. But Iām sure that has nothing to do with polls showing Bernie continuing to close the gap with women voters.
I like Bernie. I think he is fundamentally an honest guy that has not wavered from his convictions most of his career. That said, he is so focused on a few issues with broad ideals that will never come sweeping into law in the U.S., I think his Presidency would be mired in failures. Change in this country has always come incrementally and with great compromise. He missed an opportunity to speak for women who see the chipping away at āchoiceā and the loss of womenās health care access across this country. For Christās sake, the GOP even wants to take away access to birth control based on religious freedom; whose religious freedom? To minimize Trumps remarks which mirror most of the GOP is to abandon many women. This is a crucial issue for women. I know he is pro-choice. But being pro-choice today means fighting for those rights just as much as income inequality, expanding health care, etc. Hillary understands the wheels of government. She isnāt perfect and I donāt agree with some of her political decisions, but she is ready to be the chief executive, especially on the world stage where she already knows most of worldās top leadership. Ideals are essential, but practical experience toward achieving portions of those ideals are what we need and what Hillary is good at. And, lastly and important to this conversation, she is best suited to advocate for womenās health issues. All those concerned and working in womenās health already have her back.
Way more than gotcha. The whole transcript is here. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/03/31/sanders_trump_knows_how_to_manipulate_media_and_you_say_an_absurd_thing_and_the_media_is_all_over_it.html
Sanders has a whole list of things more important than particular issues like abortion or gay marriage.
I saw his full interview on Maddow and thought it was one of his worst heās given during the campaign. I think sheās pulled a lot of punches on Bernie, and I think- despite his claims of an issues-based campaign- heās come right up to the line on smearing her. My head tells me that the primary is all but over and she should keep disciplined and just grind it out, but my heart tells me that she should take him down a few notches. Iām starting to think the fact she doesnāt all out knee cap him makes people think that heās not vulnerable. And heās very vulnerable on guns on the left- I could write a treatment on that subject in 5 minutes that would make him look like the second coming of Charlton Heston. And even more vulnerable on the right for swift-boating, imo.
Repost:
Yeah. Really strange why women should think that some guy who dismissed an attack on their rights as something that ought to be ignored so that we can get back to serious issues is probably failing to get it no matter how he voted. This is the guy that had no qualms applying a dismissive label to Planned Parenthood when they chose to support Hillary.
Letās look at this another way. What if there really was a group that was effectively working for measures to punish men for having sex and Trump went that one logical step too far and said 'yeah, I agree they should be castrated". And if Bernie than said āyeah thatās terrible but letās get back to talking about serious thingsā wouldnāt you at least feel he was missing a step and didnāt really get it and really didnāt care about people like you? That he had voted right would be pretty cold comfort.
The press hasnāt really been paying attention to all this, pretending that all in the Sanders camp is still low-key when it comes to Clinton.
I gather thatās far from the case. Iāve heard about some fairly nasty booing and hissing at Sandersās events when Clintonās name is mentioned. I gather that some Sandersās supporters are showing up to disrupt Clinton events (happened again just yesterday). And, for sure, Sanders himself is getting increasingly negative in what he says.
Clinton apparently feels she has to go a bit soft on Sanders, lest his fans become even more resistant to backing her later. I think thatās probably a waste of time.
āAny stupid, absurd remark made by Donald Trump becomes the story of the week,ā Sanders told MSNBC. āMaybe, just maybe, we might want to have a serious discussion about the serious issues facing America.ā
So, womenās right to healthcare choices isnāt serious enough for you? Then you blame Hillary for what falls out of your mouth?
Every day, every single day, I get more and more sick of you!
Angry old white men, please stop running for government jobs!! Iām looking at you berns, oh and you too jony mc!
And NARAL Pro-Choice, who also endorsed Secretary Clinton.
āā¦lest his fans become even more resistant to backing her later. I think thatās probably a waste of time.ā
I agree completely. For those Sanders supporters who are truly Democrats, theyāll back Clinton because the stakes are THAT high. The Berniacs, OTOH, are just too far gone. Once the election is over, as many have said already, theyāll just fade back into the woodwork.
It does seem that Bernie has a repeating, and practiced speech, regardless of platform (debate, interview, press conference): āDo I think that [issue that he was asked about] is [adjective]? Yes. Yes I do. But the American people are more concerned about [a rigged economy/a corrupt Wall Street/a broken campaign finance system]ā¦ā
Bernie has one speech, and itās a mad lib. Try it - itās fun!
āAny stupid, absurd remark made by Donald Trump becomes the story of the week,ā Sanders told MSNBC. āMaybe, just maybe, we might want to have a serious discussion about the serious issues facing America.ā
Hillary didnāt take Bernieās remarks out of context.
Bernie stuck his foot in his mouthāand let the public know that his support for womenās reproductive health takes a back seat to his single-issue campaign.
This is yet another reason I chose Hillary over Bernie.
