Discussion: Sanders Outlines The Changes He'd Like To See From The Democratic Party

Open, same day registration for primaries? No, thank you.

I thought there would be something new here other than his blathering about DWS. The man really have virtually nothing of importance now. He made clear he had no idea what HRC’s actual policy positions are when he slipped and said he’d be talking her to find out what her positions were.

While the rest of the country grapples with mass murder in Orlando, Sanders continues to whip his one trick pony.

Fuck off already, you douche.

I don’t really see anything wrong with what he said. Keep pulling leftward, Bernie. There’s time for you to redeem yourself yet.

Why not? You think people with sneaky plans and the actual motivation to register as a Dem just to vote for the worst candidate are going to miss the deadline, regardless of when it is set?

But I digress: I mean to tell everyone who wants to go on a Bernie Derangement Syndrome rant that their bandwagon broke down a few miles back, so they should probably just let it all go. He’s doing what he should be doing. No, Orlando doesn’t get to be the ONLY thing we talk about. No, he shouldn’t just shut up and stop talking about pulling the Dems back towards the left where they belong. No, he’s not going to be the nominee, his continued presence isn’t going to fuck everything up and make Trump POTUS. And no, perpetuating the anger, resentment and spite towards Bernie and his supporters (and vice versa) is not a grand idea, doesn’t sound like a great time, won’t make visiting this site all the more fun and informative and isn’t a super healthy choice for this community.

The entire primary system is a mess, about that Sanders is right, but it’s not something that’s run by the DNC. Sanders just has a personal beef with Wasserman-Schultz (who I don’t like in the first place, but not because of him).

To go about actually changing the primary process and cleaning it up is something each state has to do on its own account.

Oh, and get rid of caucuses, for fuck’s sake.

Sanders said the party also needed to green-light “the most Progressive platform ever passed by the Democratic Party” to prove that it was allied with the working class and would go up against “corporate interest.” He further called for a more open primary process and same-day voter registration.

Huh. That’s interesting. Considering that he ran on a progressive platform and he lost, it makes me think that the working class doesn’t really give a sh*t about that. Corporate interests? Nope. Don’t see many PoC, LGBT’s, women all clamoring for the Democratic Party to go up against corporate interests. (Actually, they may be interested in some of those corporate interests to give them a job.)

Same day voter registration? You mean, as outlined and administered by the States?

Yeah, yeah, great, bye. Time to focus on Trump.

Closed primaries, please—so that only Democrats choose the Democratic nominee.

Someone should tell Bernie that the loser doesn’t get to have everything he wants—or anything he wants in some cases.

His hubris is truly astonishing.

Literally nobody cared about the fact that certain states had closed primaries until their preferred candidate wasn’t winning them (this despite the fact that he was getting blown out in OPEN PRIMARY states, too). That said, there’s nothing inherently wrong with open primaries.

No, but Rush listeners will.

And - since it’s becoming clear that Clinton can pull in votes from other avenues than just young people, I don’t really see why his call for changes should be taken seriously at all.

I always find it funny how Sanders thinks it’s a good idea to allow Republicans to come in on the day of the Democratic Primary, vote, then change back to Republican.

I’m all for progressive agendas that help the middle class and poor, more pro-environment stuff, but more open primaries? No thank you. You can freaking register before the vote.

Also, did he say anything about Caucuses? Or are those ok, even though they’re the least democratic form of elections in the USA.

Lastly, regardless of anything else, the LOSER of the Primary doesn’t get to set the agenda. I’m sorry. He can ask, but whether he gets anything is up to Hillary.

Yes, there is something inherently wrong with open primaries—Republicans can fuck 'em up by participating.

Closed primaries only.

No sure what you mean by that. It doesn’t matter when the deadline is. People planning that kind of nonsense are going to do it anyway. As for people who aren’t like that, the door should be as wide open as we can make it.

To be fair, both sides have pulled that crap. It generally doesn’t swing anything.

approving a progressive platform at the Democratic convention

You can have input, and welcome it.We will agree on most goals. Specific legislative policy approaches to said goals? Depends. On you having “approval”…? No.

He further called for a more open primary process and same-day voter registration.

Nope. For actual elections, sure. 100% onboard. For party primaries or caucuses. No.

We know 40% of West Virginia “Sanders” voters did this in that they would refuse to vote for Sanders in Nov. even if he was the nominee. It was enough to alter who won that contest.

I love Bernie (and voted for him in Maryland), but there comes a time when you have to realize that you have lost and life is moving on.

If Bernie wants a favorable legacy, he needs to concede, and then work his ass off getting HRC elected.

Sure it is. The DNC allows the states to make their own rules. It doesn’t have to.

And I don’t blame him for having a personal beef with her…she’s awful, always has been awful and he wasn’t wrong when he said she was putting her thumb on the scale for Clinton from the get-go. I say that as someone who has supported Clinton from the start.

People need to get the fuck over it. IT’s starting to sound fucking childish.
