Discussion: Sanders On His Wins In The West: 'We Have A Path Towards Victory'

Those paths tend to meander, Bernie.

I wish him good luck and am glad he’s in this race, discussing things that are not getting as much coverage otherwise. He and Clinton are two good representatives for the face of the Democratic Party and I think they highlight our values well in their respective ways.

They’ve clearly shown a path to getting the attention of angry, White people who call themselves Independents, although they’re just Rethugs, who hate Clinton with a passion. I’ve noticed that, in many cases although not all, these are the same states that voted in Rethugs and re elected them during the midterms. The same states that are now supposedly clamoring for a “political revolution”. Huh.

So what’s the “path”, other than changing everyone’s primary to a caucus?

Not really Bernie. The facts are a. everyone fully expected you to win tonight and quite likely the next few events whenever there are caucuses, and b. you have to win well over 58 percent (reference: Nate Silver’s analysis and no, it is not because he favors Clinton) of the remaining delegates from all remaining races. That is pretty much out of reach. In the primaries, it is not about winning states (despite some Bernie supporter’s claims) but winning delegates. Funny how Bernie never mentions the reality of the delegate count.

I would vote for Bernie in a heartbeat if it were him other than Clinton versus any GOPer. Unlike what apparently some Bernie supporters have said about never voting for Clinton, per a news article today. That sort of attitude leads to a GOP win (see “Ralph Nader”) and if that occurs, those Bernie supporters who decide not to vote will own that. And the subsequent destruction of health care, social security, environmental laws, women’s rights, civil rights, and voter’s rights.

Think of all the positive opportunities in your life. Individuals with a positive outlook on life are more successful

For example: Bernie Sanders:

A year ago Sanders had zero name recognition, and zero endorsements. Hillary Clinton had 100% recognition, a clear path to millions in fundraising, and thousands of supporters.

Bernie Sanders has been the most amazing dark horse candidate ever because he means what he says and says what he means, no filter, no reservation, no smoke and mirrors.

No. That is a Sander’s created meme. Almost a direct quote, in fact.

Bernie’s fervent millennials and voting, and with Democrats like these for friends who needs enemies:

A recent poll by Rock the Vote and USA Today found that while 65 percent of Mr. Sanders’s millennial supporters said they would support Mrs. Clinton if she was the nominee, 20 percent said they would not vote at all, and 9 percent said they would vote for Donald Trump if he was on the ballot.

@doctorbiobrain

republicans who call themselves moderate women won’t vote for trump. R operatives are beginning to recognize this and it’s because drumpf has a problem with women and the ugly things he has said and will continue to say. These moderate R women don’t believe he has the temperament for the White House, and will cross party lines, though not exactly enthusiastically.

I don’t know about that. I know quite a few Sanders fans who hate Clinton, but they’re all progressives who hate Hillary because they think she’s a sellout who can’t be trusted to support liberalism. In fact, my personal experience is that the Bernie fans who hate Hillary the most are hipster females in their 20’s. And exit polls support that, with Sanders winning young liberals and Hillary relying on older people and moderates. Republicans who call themselves independents are voting for Trump, not Sanders.

Ya know, Jalus, Hillary has been crucified (good time for that reference) for years by the right-wing media, and she has always, always risen (ha!) above it and done her job and done it well.

The johnny-come-lately who spouts platitudes has his place, but it won’t matter at all if people don’t vote in subsequent elections.

People like to be part of a group that backs a winner without thinking/knowing about what’s a stake. They’ve never had to worry about it, although they should be worrying.

That’s why I would vote for Sanders if he wins the nomination.

Actually, my Bernie supporting friends often mention the delegate count. And checking it just now, Hillary has a lead of 281 delegates, not including today’s final tally which will make it closer. If we include super-delegates, that’s a different matter. But super-delegates can change, and it’s conceivable they’d switch sides if Bernie won the regular delegate count. So if we’re going to talk about the delegate count, we should see how close things really are instead of pretending that Bernie’s already lost.

And frankly, I don’t care which of them wins as long as they win the general election, which is likely for either of them. But since Bernie’s fans are more motivated while Hillary wins the loyal Democrats who always vote, I tend to consider Bernie the better option in the general election. I keep seeing people insist that they support Hillary because she’s the best shot in the general, but I consider that theory laughable. There are so many variables in play here that it’s just best to vote for the one you like better, since either of them is likely to beat Trump easily.

It has been proven that Sanders crushes Clinton among people who designate themselves as Independents in states that have caucuses which is more the domain of Libertarians. While I certainly appreciate your anecdotal situation, the majority of the vociferous Berniacs are young men who wouldn’t even be voting Dem anyway. Once Sanders is gone, they’ll probably vanish from voting altogether.

Sanders has exactly NO path to victory. He cannot win the primary OR the General Election. His tax plan kills both the economy and the poor and breaks everybody’s back to pay for free stuff. It simply is not worth it and he would be crushed beyond belief in a GE. He might even lose Vermont in a GE with that odious tax plan.

I appreciate his progress, but he has not yet been attacked by the right wing. There is no indication he can withstand a sustained attack well.

And 12 months ago, nobody remembered he called for Obama to be primaried, decided to run as a Democrat although he’s never been one, and continued to vote for funding for our Iraqi Expedition during the crucial years and it still gets ignored by his acolytes.

Still eyerolling until July.

I do notice that certain replies to comments go unanswered by certain people.

I agree that he has more name recognition now than before and more money and a few endorsements. Yes, he’s accomplished some things.

He has almost no support amongst communities of color and actual Democrats (I’m not talking about Indies who might pull the lever for a Dem) in urban areas where a true primary is held. It’s just not there. He’s made a lot of headway in getting his name into the public at large but I’m not seeing what his goal is at this point.
