Discussion: Sanders: My Manager Saying We'd Consider Clinton For VP Was 'Inappropriate'

Discussion for article #242333

ugh… jfc… leave this hurt feefees shit to msnbc. it’s sickening that this is the only fucking issue the media exploits to discuss sanders… never his policies; never the crowds he’s pulling in; never his decades of public service and the consistency of his support for progressive/liberal issues.

instead it’s – but he was saying mean things about clinton… never mind that it’s a misrepresentation of what he said and has been saying all along. or that, god forbid, he challenges her support/opposition to the latest issue that doesn’t poll well.

and to top it off – oh look at the old guy, who can’t hear.

otoh, the take away shows you how terrified the moneyboyz are of his appeal and their determination to marginalize/destroy his campaign.

I wish some of Bernie’s supporters were as classy as Bernie.

So it was a joke? Wasn’t it his campaign manager?

Oy.

Thanks, Bernie, for the comment, nevertheless.

Easy, enon. What Sanders promotes needs to be said. It’s good he’s been given this platform to do it.

When will these political flacks learn you leave the “comedy” to the professionals.

“We’re willing to give her more credit than Obama did.”

Back in '09, I hoped POTUS would offer her Defense instead of State.

I so wanted to see the chauvinist brass at Pentagon throw snappy salutes and bark “Yes Ma’am!”

(I guess I’ll have to wait until she’s Commander in Chief.)

but that’s the point… this shouldn’t even be an issue. msnbc is on at work, so i see how their coverage of sanders is how condescending and mean he is to clinton. and today, when roberts wasn’t successful with the clinton angle, he turned to the comment from last nite about how sanders went to the soviet union for a honeymoon. it was only sanders insisting that he was determined to discuss real issues that anything of substance was mentioned. and, of course, roberts couldn’t cut the segment fast enough.

although hayes and maddow deserve props for inviting him on for extended discussions of issues.

The constant stream of WATB paranoia-tinged defensiveness of his devotees on the Internet at the slightest perceived slight, insult, setback, or perceived diss is the only thing I don’t like about him. And that’s not a thing about him, but it hurts him anyway.

This has been the most thoughtful, substantive, respectful Democratic primary I can recall, and I’ve been watching these things for a long time. Bernie is a big boy raised in a tough school and he’s been doing this a long time. He’s been a class act (no pun intended) running a grown-up campaign all the way. He’s had a substantial impact on both the issues and the tone of the race.

And yet, every time there’s even the slightest perception of disrespect, here comes the self-appointed “waaaaahhhhhh” squad. It’s one of the things I most loathe about the Pauls (albeit, one thing on a long list) and it’s a thing that helped turn me against Dean.

This isn’t helping him. Pissing and moaning that the refs aren’t fair sends the message that of weakness and fear and, worst of all, not ready for prime time fringiness.

It’s the opposite of help. I wish you people would clue the hell up about that.

I didn’t see any of that.

But, enon, Sanders is running for POTUS.

It’s not for the fainthearted. It’s a long campaign, terribly mean and nasty, and the last person standing wins.

Is that going to be Bernie?

I thought the “we’ll consider her for VP” bit was actually kind of funny, but then I interpreted it as playing off the fact that Hillary’s way ahead and thus the chances of a Hillary-being-considered-as-VP-candidate scenario are laughably low. But I didn’t hear how the guy delivered the line. If he was sneering, then yeah, sure, inappropriate. Otherwise, seems like a tempest in a teacup.

Either way, Hillary’s camp is really in no position to complain about tone, after they spent the last news cycle implying Bernie was being condescending / sexist towards Hillary in the debate, when not only is that blatantly false, but Hillary and her people know it’s blatantly false.

To me, it seemed like a shot across the bow by Hilllary and her peeps – “if Bernie criticizes Hillary’s record on issues, we’ll attack Bernie with whatever bullshit character assassination we want.” Classic hardball politics. But Bernie’s campaign has signaled it won’t be bullied. So we will get a vigorous debate on the issues, whether Hillary’s folks like it or not.

[By the way, this will only be to Hillary’s benefit in preparing her for the general election – it might have been much more relaxing and comfortable for her to have been able to just coast to the nomination (as anticipated), but she’s going to be a much better candidate if she has to fight for it. Not to mention a vigorous primary keeps the Democratic candidates in the competition for media time, whereas a total snoozer on the Democratic side, while the Republicans have a real (if ridiculous) race, is exactly what the Democrats don’t need. ]

Which one?

Oh, enon.

Well, haven’t seen a classless Hillary supporter.

We’re so cool.

If there have been smart ass statements from HRC’s staff trashing Bernie with a suggestion he’d make a good Veep or a good Cabinet member or any position in her administration, I’m not aware of it. Can you cite something?

As a Bernie supporter, I mostly agree. But I also notice some similar dynamics among more than a few Hillary supporters, who get very defensive about even modest, strictly-fact-based criticism of Hillary’s record. My message to them is, relax. Hillary will most likely win the nomination handily. Bernie will help her stay on her toes, but will not go after her in the kind of nasty personal ways that can turn off voters to both the attacker and the attackee.

Despite some naive (or cynical?) “I will ONLY vote for Bernie” people, the vast majority of his supporters (including myself) will, without hesitation, vote for Hillary over any of the Republican clowns. Bernie’s presence in the race will only help Democratic turnout overall. About the only way Hillary and her supporters could screw this up is by going nasty and personal against Bernie and his supporters. The bogus charge of sexism was an unforced error, in my view, but hopefully an aberration rather than the beginning of a pattern.

Pretty sure she means you. Why are you slagging on Bernie supporters? Do you really think as a group that they are ruder or more dismissive than HRC´s? If so, aren´t you being as catty as your imagined Bernie supporters?

@CarlosFiance

Campaign operatives are highly paid in the know people who are there to promote their candidate by any means possible and sometimes do this kind of thing thinking aggressiveness will pay off. The smart candidate should make it clear on day one he/she won’t tolerate it.
