Like it or not, Sec. Clinton and Mr. Trump are way ahead in the polls for their respective parties, so yes, they’re going to get way more coverage from TPM and from every media outlet.
As far as TPM becoming a tabloid, I don’t think so. Yes, it’s been a while since TPM really was at the forefront of the media universe (a la the US Attorney scandal or the Social Security privatizing effort). But if you remember what slate or salon or huffpo was like a decade ago versus what they’re like today, there’s no way that TPM can be accused of becoming a tabloid.
On the gun violence issue, Josh has always had his subjects of interest, and I commend his willingness to stick with an issue for the long term rather than get distracted by the new shiny object every couple days the way the 24-hour cycle does. Ditto for his other long-term interests – voter suppression, gay rights, Israel-US relations, etc.
I actually see this as more of a reflection of Bernie’s smarts than a news item on Trump. I’ve long felt Democratic strategy should lean more toward simply laughing off many of the stupid questions asked by the mainstream media ‘pundits’. Trying to answer them seriously takes time and only provides fodder for isolated words to be taken out of context. Just laugh - which is the accurate response to many of these kinds of questions.
In order to fight cancer, one must quit feeding it. Keep feeding Trump and he just gets stronger. I can’t even avoid him by watching “liberal” news or going to progressive web sites.
