Discussion: Sanders: I Hope Trump 'Tones It Down' At His Rallies

Discussion for article #247317

Don’t count on it Bernie and don’t be surprised if some of his brown shirts start showing up at your rallies.

He can continue to “hope” all he wants. Won’t happen. He’s gonna have to be more forceful in denouncing Rump.

It won’t help denouncing Trump. I do wonder if the protesters (while I agree with them) might backfire.

"I very much hope that he understands that in a democracy, people should be allowed to go to anybody’s rally,

To Trump’s warped mind, this is incitement.

And if Bernie was going to" incite", wouldn’t he encourage his supporters to attend Hillary’s events instead?

That’s like hoping boiling water won’t make a kettle whistle

At this point, for the sake of unity on the Democratic side–and to send out a forceful but positive message–Senator Bernie Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, along with other Democratic heavy hitters, all need to hold a press conference stating that they do not condone violence of any kind, etc. They need to make it clear they support every citizen’s right to peacefully protest. They need to make it clear they do not condone police or other security people infringing on anyone’s constitutionally protected right to to peacefully protest. Perhaps even President Barack Obama or First Lady Michelle Obama should attend this gathering.

Trump’s supporters will not only be nasty at his rallies, they will be nasty at other candidate’s rallies, at polling stations, and when they lose, all over the country.

Why would anyone think otherwise?

I always knew it’d get powerful ugly before the R party dies, and that day is coming sooner than later.

That will happen and that will happen soon.

What the fuck, Bernie? All that thunderous denunciation of “Wall Street” and whoever, and yet this tepid weak tea is how you respond to the last days of the Weimar Republic chaos Trump is fueling and perpetuating?

I mean, it’s not like Hillary’s long, measured statement the other day was any better. The two of them seem as paralyzed in trying to come to grips with how fundamentally dangerous and extreme what’s going on really is as the MSM is.

Sorry, Burn, but every time I’ve tried to say something nice about Secretary Clinton, your Bros blow me up on even the most liberal blogs. You can start your “tone it down” campaign with a look at your own.

I know we are in the most heavily partisan season, but it would be great if the Republicans would do something similar on their side. I know I’m dreaming, but this needs to be called out by all sides.

It’s bad enough that a psycho like Rump is walking free and running wild. I think ALL Dems have to speak out and denounce him but especially Sanders if Rump is targeting him. And when I say “denounce” Im not talking about the Rube’s immature blathering on about “Hair Force One.”

Trump has achieved something I would never have thought possible. He makes George Wallace look dignified by comparison.

So true, Trump was right, not everyone can pull of hostile (paraphrasing).

They need to denounce him hard, like adults.

I’d love to see a joint press conference with Clinton, Sanders, Rubio, Cruz and Kasich.

Red rag to a bull. Trump screeches louder at Bernie on Twitter, media reports breathlessly, Trump fascists gleeful at their hatred ratified, even more Dem voters are energized to turn out, either Dem candidate destroys Trump in the general, GOP is over as a presidential party for at least 12 years.

I can see it all.

Drumpf will take Republican control of the Senate down with him, and possibly the House
