Yeah, I could’ve made it clearer now that I look back at it. My point was that all along people like myself who support Clinton have said they’d be happy voting for Sanders if that’s how the game played out. Sanders’ camp did not provide the same level of respect or the same acknowledgment that we are on the same team and, in fact, has taken the unfortunate and petulant position of threatening not to vote or saying idiotic things like “I’d vote for Trump before I’d vote for Clinton,” because yeah, THAT would further their supposed policy objectives. They seem not to recognize that the hostage they were threatening to shoot includes themselves.
If you want to continue to shit on HRC and the people who’s lives depend on her to win the general, just consider that she would be the only person in a position to protect SCOTUS from the GOP. I’d say that is a BIG FUCKING DEAL.
Right. That’s why Dean, a Clinton supporter, was a staunch advocate for and putting in place the 50 state strategy.
Oh, “Corporatist Democratic Whores” has been pretty standard talk over at the Great Orange Satan ever since Obama took office. The previous Naderites morphed into the ODS sufferers into the Dudebros and Greenwaldians and now into the BernieBros. And around and around they go. One of the last diaries I posted over there before getting banned a couple years ago was a quiz entitled something like “Which Republican Scumbag Said It?” or something like that. I listed a whole series of unhinged comments about Obama and the Dems, and listed choices of which right-wing crazy said them. At the very end, I revealed that every single one of the crazy, ODS-laden, anti-Dem comments was not actually from a right-winger, but actually came from one of the group of “respected” DKOS “progressive” posters. Needless to say, the DudeBros did NOT like that revelation. I was banned soon thereafter. The point is that sadly, the loony fringe has been around forever – it’s just getting more coverage, thanks to being given a platform by the existence of the Sanders campaign, to spout their same nonsense a little louder.
Oh, don’t you get it? If Cruz or Trump gets elected and stacks the Supreme Court with right-wing loonies, that would be a GOOD thing, see, because things would get SO bad, see, that all the people would rise up, see, and demand – demand, I says – a revolution, and then voila! Presto – a progressive Utopia! Er, or something . . .
I guess they’re still working on the details . . .
Sorry, this is where we part company. If Sanders does somehow win the nomination, I will work to make sure he wins, as the consequences of any of the GOP ever being in the Oval Office on anything other than a public tour, is not acceptable.
Good, sound analysis. The Democratic party is a big tent with diverse yet complimentary factions. The stress needs to stay on the latter.
OK, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Most Bernie Sanders supporters aren’t willing to pay for his revolution
Sanders is the whore: running as a Democrat, using the Democratic party, and then turning around and criticizing the sitting Democratic President and his signature piece of legislation, Obamacare. Also, wearing the mantle of “purity” by refusing corporate money, while Hillary raises money for downticket Dems to win back the House and Senate. Sanders is all about himself, not the Party.
I am not a Bernie Bro, but I do recognize that the national party and my state party sit on their aging asses not even trying to do anything to build for the future.
Please explain what it is you think Sanders can accomplish and how he is going to do it. If your answer is the one the prophet himself uses (millions of angry revolutionaries protesting on capital hill) please explain how that will move Republicans. BTW disparaging our Presidents accomplishments is not the way to sway Democrats to back a bill you want passed in congress. Without Dems backing Sanders he has no chance to do anything at all.
“Swinging for the fences” is probably a bad choice of words. How about “establishing long term goals?”
Work and vote for a progressive SCOTUS is my mantra.
ok let me ask again what do you want to see happen. you spend a lot of time criticizing the Democratic Party and it’s members. But I have not read what it that you think should be done or accomplished and how.
Again, you failed to read what I wrote. It is useless to discuss anything with you any longer.
The Democratic party needs a complete make over. The Democratic leadership has lost sight of why they became Democrats in the first place. The party needs to get back to what it did historically. It needs to convince people of all races and religions that it can help them achieve the American dream. It needs to help people avoid the rough edges of capitalism and it needs to stand for real religious freedom, including the freedom to practice no religion at all. The social safety network is something Americans should be proud of.
The party needs to encourage Democrats to be proud to be liberals again. They need to stop hunkering down in their Capitol Grill bunker. Triangulation worked for Bill, it isn’t the guiding principle Hillary needs to adopt.
Thanks for sharing that. Interesting and eye opening. The “revolution” seems to be a mile wide and an quarter inch deep.
I generalized from election results on the Independent figures, from results like Massachusetts (Sanders took 66% of the Independent vote in the primary); Michigan (Sanders took 71% of Independents); New Hampshire (72%); Wisconsin (71%). I grabbed a figure on the low side to be safe, but Sanders does extremely well with Independents. As does Trump.
The question is, where will Democratic (or Sanders) leaning Independents go int he General.
Many first rate goals to work towards in the Democratic party. Nothing wrong with wanting to improve the party. My question was
“Please explain what it is you think Sanders can accomplish and how he is going to do it”
I don’t think Sanders can accomplish any more than Hillary Clinton. The person who I really want to support is Hillary Clinton. I just don’t see her wanting to rebuild the party for 2018 or 2020. That is why I am so upset about my choice this year.
