Discussion for article #246647
Heads up pollsters, if you cannot poll, only, likely voters; what’s the point?
No no Ya got the headline all wrong. This same info at Salon would read “The disastrous Clinton still doesn’t get it: inside the new numbers that spell doom for her ill conceived campaign”. Then they’d only mention the Rubio number. Clickity clickity!
Oh wait that’s why I’m here & not there.
The early primary polls showed Trump couldn’t get more than 10% of Republican primary voters. Those polls showed Trump losing to Bush!, Rubio, Christie! and Cruz. The battle is just beginning. And we won’t know the likely results until some time in October. Trump has shown that he is as smart as he is selfish–and he’s extremely selfish.
Sanders led Trump with an 12-point lead, 55 to 43 percent. In the January iteration of the poll, Sanders only led by three points.
Clinton beat Trump with an 8-point lead, 52 to 44 percent. This is a sharp increase from the 1- to 2-point leads she had over the real estate mogul in the December and January versions of the poll.
This election is too important to risk nominating a less popular candidate for November! Think about the Supreme Court for the next generation! The Ds have to go with someone safely electable!
I know us old folks are all excited by HRC, but let’s be PRACTICAL here! WE CAN’T TAKE THAT GREAT A CHANCE!
Whaaaaat? Clinton could actually also beat Trump??? But I thought only #Bernie could do that!!!
… sorry for the snark. (not sorry!)
Two quick comments:

Am I the only one who’s noticed a very sharp decrease in the #feelthebern’ers in most boards? They seem to have gone back to wherever they came from. Now it’s mostly just the #indicthillary folk who are bashing Hillary non-stop. Which, imo, consisted of a sizable portion of the #feelthebern’ers.

I’m soooo glad today may finally put that nail in the coffin of Bernie’s “revolution”. I was actually ok with it at the start, but good freaking lord it wore thin fast! #feelthebern! #revolution! #Im16thisyear! … It was like dealing with a constant flood of anti-math/facts/science teenage GOPers who just don’t-let-anything-through-that-bubble.
I can deal with folks who argue facts, evidence, numbers. But when you have folks who, for example, constantly day-after-day continue bashing (and bashing, and bashing) Paul Krugman not for his numbers or facts or evidence, but for his not understanding the incredible, ultra-amazing “aspirational” value aspect of Bernie Sander’s plans when Paul evaluates Bernie’s plans and says “based on the numbers, Bernie’s plan is smoking crack cocaine”, I’m sorry, but that’s the line I don’t cross… It’s the same as Trump saying his “brand” is worth $Billions$ because of the “inspirational, luxury” associated to it. Those folks can all blow me.
“Old Folks,” Carlos? You need to work on your messaging, dude.
Hey, I’m an old folk, so I can talk
I’m backing Hillary 100% right now and am working to make her the Dem nominee. Having said that, if Bernie is the nominee, I will work to get him elected without hesitation.
I just hope that Bernie’s supporters will do the same if the outcome is reversed…
I’m happy that both Dem candidates are beating Trump in the polls. I’m surprised Sanders’ numbers are stronger than Clinton’s, but I’m pretty sure Sanders’ numbers would go down against Trump once the general election campaign began to reveal the details of his program for reform.
Note: I generally prefer Sanders’ general outlook and orientation to Clinton’s, but despite today’s numbers I think Clinton is more electable and that’s the bottom line for me in this election. The stakes are too high. Further note: I will vote for the Dem nominee in the fall. (And I always vote.)
Registered voters would probably provide a better indicator in any presidential year, but especially one involving Trump. A lot of his Archie Bunker-type followers may not have voted in a while, but intend to now. A likely voter screen would leave them out.
Of course, there’s always that guru from SUNY Stony Brook who has Trump with 97 % chance of beating Hillary and a 99 % chance of beating Bernie?! Maybe we should just forget the whole election.
Sanders has largely been left alone by the national media and GOP attack dogs. That would change dramatically and on a dime if he were to win the nomination. And his polling numbers would plummet like a stone as well.
Her numbers will bounce up once the nomination if sewn up and a lot of the Sanders supporters come home.It happens nearly every nomination.
National polling isn’t particularly useful, and still even less so this far out. Voters only really start engaging their minds on this question in the summer. And even then…what is happening state by state if far more important and revealing, it IS how we elect Presidents, after all.
CNN trying to keep the Dem horserace story alive.
Less popular? She is winning among primary voters. The thing with polls like this that are misleading is most people are not paying that much attention to any of this. They probably barely know who Cruz, Rubio and Sanders are. It is hard to believe for instance that people that are against Trump would be alright with Ted Cruz for instance.
Sanders, so far, has not even been able to win with the Dem base let alone in a general election. I think Hillary would be wise to take on some of his points but hoping for Sanders is foolish in my view.
Watch the results tonight…We are
Your job is going to be getting on board with that choice
The older established Dems will. The newly motivated, maybe not, and that’s a problem the Dems have always had, getting the disaffected to show up.
That’s talking sense. If Trump gets in, it’s over.
Al Capone would be better.
As all of you posting here know, Democratic voters are not “pile on” personalities like the GOP voters (who let “momentum” and this business of “being in the majority” drive them into a voting frenzy).
No…Democrats are nice, peaceful, justice-loving souls who, when presented with a lead like this, just might say,
“That’s nice. We are in the lead. I don’t need to trouble myself with voting then…It’s in the Bag.”
Sure.
And then my job will be to fight against the wars, coups, and oligarchs that she seems to be so fond of
The NYT ran a piece yesterday about the Clinton campaign developing a strategy to defeat Trump. Is the Sanders campaign making a similar effort ? I hope so, because I’m not confident that only a positive campaign message will be enough to defeat Trump.
I’m 90% sure CarlosFiance is being sarcastic.
