Depending on the state, choosing a ballot may actually be a form of registration in the party. States in this category also vary according to how they treat unaffiliated voters. They may or may not be permitted to vote in party primaries. In some states, such as Alaska, political parties may decide for themselves whether to permit voters who are unaffiliated or are members of another party to participate in their primary. The parties may not necessarily all choose the same approach in a given state
Reality is a hard pill to swallow. BS has his own definition of reality and the rest of us have ours. The system isnāt rigged until you start losing. There is nothing wrong with change. Itās just how you go about it. I did vote for you sir, but as has been mentioned, Iām somewhat embarrassed that I did. Weāll see just how much of a mistake that was come convention time. This time Bernie, youāll be in my backyard. Behave yourself.
When the Repubs had their convention in Philly in 2000, there were some minor disturbances. I got a chance to witness the one that brought out the tear gas, from work. To be honest, the police actually started the brouhaha. The kids were not doing anything grossly resembling anarchy. A cop snatched a sign from a couple of demonstrators and that set it off. Considering the GOP convention was a total bore, the outside activity kept the city on its toes.
I am so over Bernie. The math makes a win for him impossible. At this point, saving us all from Trump is far more important than the ego of Bernie. He should be working to convince his supporters to vote for the Democrat. He rails against the Party. He has never been a true member of the Party. Without this Party, he would never have been able to energize so many people. Now is time to energize them against Trump. Everyday he is losing whatever stature he had in the Senate.
Speaking of Janeā¦itās ironic considering how important free college tuition is to his platform, that he has no comment on the impending closure of Burlington College.
Especially since itās dire financial situation has been placed at the feet of one Jane Sanders.
Actually, we have a āsemi-openā primary where voters who are not a member of any party (Decline To State, our version of Independent) can vote in the Democratic primary only (the CA-GOP does not allow independents to vote). It does not change your registration status, and the deadline to change your registration was quite a while ago.
So the number of GOP sleeper agents will be miniscule, if any. So-called āDecline To Stateā voters in California are mainly Democratic-leaning who simply get sick of being bombarded with political literature and phone calls begging for money.
Plus a gilded invitation with a single red rose on a silver-plated tray, please, and the doors have to be mahogany doors, very classy, only the best, and there has to be a cake, a three-tiered cake, with chocolate frosting, and champagne in a crystal goblet too, only the best, and a jazz band please, with balloons and confetti, and you better be bowing down on your knees, with the butler serving the canapes, first-class all the way, and a bag of welcome swag too. Then, and only then, will I feel welcome enough to check the box for your so-called āparty.ā
Iām all for Bernie sticking it out through California, even though Hillary almost has it clinched. Dragging her left throughout this campaign, heās actually prepared her for a likely counterpoint, if she takes the cues, to Trumpās populist message. It should result in Clinton/Sanders 2016, going IN to the convention. They compliment each other perfectly, each is strong where the other is weak, name the place, and despite the acrimony they have good chemistry.
This is the worst possible year for standard-issue, template Presidential campaigns, and a terrible time for party mechanizations to be hanging out for all to see, on both sides. They donāt usually make enough difference to be noticed. Disillusion with government and politics are major drivers of both the Trump and Sanders phenomenon. The difference is one pits group against group and the other pits groups against the system.
Bernie should denounce the actions of his most virulent supporters and acknowledge that the issue in Nevada was accreditation ā you canāt be a Democratic Party delegate in Nevada without being a registered Democrat. That is what happened to 58 out of 60 of his chosen. It wasnāt that big of an ask.
Iām not a Bernie supporter per se, to be honest like a lot of Democrats Iām content for voting either of them in November. Could not vote for Clinton in 2008 just for the dynastic issue. It would have meant 32 or 36 years in a row of either a Bush or a Clinton as President or Vice-president. 8 years of Obama has made that a non-issue, at least until Michelle, Malia or Sasha run for office. Even the night before the Wisconsin primary, the wife and I were negotiating who would for vote for who since we wanted to split the vote. Finally we split on gender lines. Her vote for Hillary freed me to vote for Bernie. Without the offset vote I wouldāve tossed a coin in the voting booth. I hope to vote for both in November. Let the Republicans blow themselves apart. Theyāve been working diligently for it since 1964.
At the presidential level, nonpartisans can vote in the Democratic primary because the Dems allow it, and Republicans have a closed primary where only Republicans can vote.
All other primaries, such as governor, senator, congress, state assembly and so on, are nonpartisan (or perhaps more accurately, multipartisan) so you can vote for whoever you want regardless of party, and the top two votegetters go on to November. In the senate race for Barbara Boxerās seat, this is likely to make it a Dem vs. Dem runoff in November (Kamala Harris vs. Loretta Sanchez).
If needing to quell or win over the Bernie supporters were to cause Hillary to choose Elizabeth Warren as her running mate, it might still not end up being such a bad thing.
Though I wouldnāt put it past the Berniacs to call Sen. Warren a capitalist shill running dog traitor after that.
āNow some people say that weāve got a steep hill to climb to do that. And that is absolutely true, but our ongoing program of phoned death threats, doxxing, and obscenities hurled at Clinton superdelegates will turn the tide for us!ā
I thought that, rather than āclosedā, CAās primary allowed indies to vote in either Partyās primary but Ā®s could not cross over and vote (D). I could be wrong. That would still benefit Sanders though. The truth of the matter, however is that it wonāt really matter. Bernie supports donāt seem to understand that Hillary leads in popular vote AND pledged delegates.
They already are calling Warren a shill/DINO/traitor for not endorseing Bernie. Iām pretty sure if she accepted the VP slot from Hillary theyād be bombarding her with death threats (theyāre certainly not above it if NV is anything to go by.)
