Discussion: Sanders Accuses Clinton Of Embracing Obama Only For Black Votes

Oh do shut your hole berns!

You’ve been dissing President Obama for years! And if you ask me, it’s sickening! You were acting all old white guy vs. the new black pres, even before he was even elected pres the first time for crying out loud.

NOW, you’re making up crap on Hillary, since you want the black vote.

Thanks a lot, neoliberal clintonista.

WTF, Bernie? That tells me a lot more about how you see Obama, than she does.

Or just maybe Clinton embraces Obama and his track records because he has been a successful 2-term President from her party (which I guess is not Sander’s party) whom she worked closely with and respects. She has worked with him. She also saw what happens when you run from your parties record. Gore distanced himself from Bill Clinton rather than acknowledging the guys failing but celebrating his successes. Look how that turned out.

The reality is that Obama has a far better record to run for the Democratic Candidate to spring board off now too. On the economy, he steadily led the country out of a monstrous and destabilizing whole. Go back Nov 2008, think of your job security, housing, pension/savings, healthcare. Think how stretched and burnt our armed forces were. For that matter think about the one-dimensional, dysfunctional diplomacy he inherited.

President Obama has accomplished tremendous amount in spite of the intransigence of Congress. The message of the Democrats should be “We accomplished a lot, but to make they kind of progress America needs, we need the Senate too.”

The House of Representatives too. But the Senate would be a good start.

I read your post and then immediately signed up to phone canvass for HRC. I’m terrified that people who think like you are going to destroy my party with demands for perfection, unattainable expectations, and an insatiable need to be dissatisfied.

Good post.

And, I have to say, I’m genuinely hurt by some of the back and forth I see. I know politics can be worse than a hockey game. I was glad when Sanders announced he was throwing in his hat, gonna seek the Democratic nomination. He represents the younger me – very liberal, very progressive. Truthfully, I’ve felt from the start that I didn’t think he would ultimately be the nominee. I wanted him to pull the Dem Party back to the left some.

I think I need to put a disclaimer on all my posts that I will enthusiastically support and vote for whoever wins the Democratic nomination. In the primary, though, I am voting for Hillary Rodham Clinton … for a wide range of reasons and after many weeks of deliberations.

I understand the sentiment. I really do. I also get that this inspiration thing in reality plays a considerable role in any social movement.

Then again, maybe I’m a boring person who refuses to get quickly excited or inspired, but my attitude is different from yours. To me, this is like a job interview where I am one of those hiring officers. And I don’t expect to be inspired by my job candidates; I just need to know what concrete, tangible contributions I can realistically expect from them.

And of course, I need to know if I can work together with them for those tangible goals.

And if Bernie makes it to the General Election, get ready to see the GOP go full Judeo-Bolshevik Trotskyite on this guy. You know they will. Plus they will pump-up Hillary as the “moderate” choice who was crushed by the “far left” who wanted Sanders… just to troll the Dems. Then, they will show survivors (and children of survivors) of the excesses of the Nicaraguan Sandinistas in the 1980s… And then they will use Sanders own words against him.

And BTW, they will also wrap this stuff around the neck of EVERY down-ballot Democrat running in swing states. Imagine how the Congressional / Senatorial / Governor debate goes when the Republican candidate brings up Bernie’s weekend with the Sandinistas… and then watch as these candidates run like hell from their own party’s presidential nominee.

Sorry, but what the hell is a top-down revolution? How did the top get there?

I mean, I think it would be great if concerned Americans marched on the big banks and Wall Street and demanded change non-violently…Wait.

Agreed, Professor. But the Senate is withing striking distance. Not to mention I think the Supreme Court composition is going to have a much bigger impact on America than who sits in the Oval for the four next years. If you could win only one which would you take today the Senate or the Presidency? Yeah, I know winning one is definitely related to winning the other, the point is the impact in the next decade.

We can call this a gaffe now right? At long last can we declare that he has finally said something profoundly dumb in public that has the potential not only to be viewed as wrong and spurious but potentially offensive. Right?

To be fair, it’s probably hard not to be holier- than- thou when you’re a savior and all.

Pretty damned insulting to black voters. To me, too.

Its was not meant to help. Its purpose is to “divide and conquer” create doubt, distrust and discontent of your opponent and to make yourself a better option. Either though your campaign is doing the same thing.

This boil down to “pot calling the kettle black” come to mind… IMHO, start talking details of your policies on the ‘How’. Put it out their and let the people and real experts judge it on its merits ( not pundits). And right now most experts said Sanders policies are lacking and Clinton policies adds -up. Oh yea, I’m neither a Sanders or Clinton supporter, I’m a Obamabot and very proud of it and we come in all shades, sexes, religion.

“And we know what that’s about,” he continued. “That’s trying to win support from the African American community where the President is enormously popular.”

No, it’s trying to win support from DEMOCRATS where the President is enormously popular. Clinton doesn’t need help from Obama to win support from the African American community, she and Bill have been working with them in depth since Bill left office. Heck, the main purpose of the Clinton Foundation was to work with poor black people in Harlem. This is a really bizarre comment from Sanders, I don’t know if he doesn’t understand what he’s saying or is taking bad advice from campaign advisors but I fail to see how this will gain support from anyone, Democrats, blacks or anyone in between.
