Discussion: San Juan Mayor: Trump’s Remarks Were ‘Insulting,’ ‘Minimized Our Suffering’

And then to have it thrown back in your face that you’re all a bunch of ingrates, that saving your life will throw the US budget out whack, and not to mention that the longer people have to stand in line, for hours on end, means that there is less time to go and help others.

With every snub and insult trump levels personally against the mayor, he shows himself to be a petty bully. This catastrophe has brought forth a real leader – and her name is Carmen Yulin Cruz.

One of the good things I heard reported is that they are going with community kitchens and centers. This is what the local mayors needed to be doing second after assessing their needs. This is what FEMA and other relief agencies needed to suggest after getting information on lack power, water, and sewage treatment.

And @ronbyers when you have old people in nursing homes or private housing dying, or near death because they can’t get their medications, food, and water you’d be screaming too at the top of your lungs for HELP.
I you have hospitals running out of fuel then you need someone like the mayor to coordinate how to shift patients, get fuel, anything and everything to try and save lives.

I hope when this is all said and done some one, maybe not FEMA, but an outside review needs to be done to see what went wrong, what went right, and how to take the lessons learned here to make response better when it happens again.

He’s their version of a GOPer, a product of an aristocratic family, father was governor who caused the 2006 recession in PR, but he deliberately walks the center line on social issues if Wikipedia is correct…medical weed, but not recreational…“supports LGBT rights, but not same sex marriage”…and as if that’s not enough doublethink inside one head, the PR Dems accuse him of constantly saying one thing and doing another. He supports PR becoming a state. Overall though, I think he just knows in this instance that licking Trump’s sagging balls is what Trump requires if PR is to get what it needs from the feds.

Yes it was insulting and yes he can’t communicate his way out of a paper bag. Just know Mayor Cruz that we are not all like that on the mainland.

Oxfam seems pretty motivated. I’d have them do the assessment.

For sure his base will go right along with that. In fact, it’s a feature not a bug to denigrate women with these lowlife scum.

She gave Trump what opening? To continue to blame her for PR’s problems?

She’s over the top? Then what the fuck is Trump?

What a vulgar little man. No wonder the glitterati of NYC won’t have anything to do with him.

“This is common courtesy,” she said.

Mayor Cruz, unfortunately, it is less common than you or I would like.

He is so fucking far over the top backwards he sees the souls of his shoes looking up.

Personally I don’t know if I would have reacted to the outrageous comments of Trump’s DHS secretary any better than the Mayor, probably a lot worse, but if we can’t talk about what might have been a slightly better response, what is the point of a comments page?

I think you wanted to say “waist high waste water.”

I think she could have emphasized something other than the death total. By comparison to Katrina it looks pretty good from the outside. She could have talked about heading off a humanitarian crisis. She could have talked about needing specific kinds of help.

Speaking of people can’t get their medications, just about every pharmaceutical manufacturer has a factory in Puerto Rico. Owing, as always, to special corporate tax privileges for companies that built there.

I wonder how many stock outs , shortages and price hikes we can look forward to this winter.

That works too
Probably a lot of waste and effluent in that water

Have you been following her interviews with Maddow, et al? I should think over the top would be a conservative starting point in adequately addressing the dumbfuckery she’s had to endure.

High waste waist high water at that.

Good cop, bad copy. The governor and the mayor.

[Trump] did not mention Cruz, a sleight that came across as pointed after a week of tension between the two leaders.

For God’s sake hire a copy editor already.
