Good news! Small businesses with fewer than 20 employees will still be allowed to exploit their workers!
Having worked as a benefits professional in San Francisco for 20 years, I can tell you that none of these laws are easy to administer from the bookkeeping side of things. But all those spreadsheets are meaningless when you see the relief on an employee’s face when they learn they will be able to afford to take time off to be with their newborn. It seems so, oh, you know, civilized.
Life is hard. Compassion towards others–priceless.
Well, I am glad that this went thru, although I own a very small business in SF. If i were forced to pay this, i would be out of business just like that. Not all business’s make huge money while providing high pay to those who work for them.
I assume you’ll be showing up to cover for the new parent for 6 weeks so the 4-employee business doesn’t go under?
