Once again, when the conservative pipe dream of tax cuts generating more revenue doesn’t come true, hit up the dreaded Uncle Sugar for some cash.
Democrats and even some moderate Republicans in the state legislature have been urging a revisiting of those cuts. The state will have a new estimate of revenue for the current fiscal year at the end of March/beginning of April, so, pending how that goes (I suspect it will not be happy news), that urge to revisit the cuts may gain some momentum. Whether those folks will have enough votes, though . . .
Yes, although you say that like there was something unusual with red states depending on blue states’ money. Are there any that don’t? Talk about takers…
Conservative ideology, I’d like to introduce you to my friend, Reality. Will you finally come down off the slopes of Bullshit Mountain and try living in the real world with the rest of us? It’s stunning that it takes a near financial meltdown before these pigheaded obstructionists wake up and smell the coffee. I’m sure Brownback would love to take credit for “fixing” his state, and hopefully, the electorate will see him for the incompetent slave of the Koch brothers he is.
Repubs hypocrisy unmasked once again: They are willing to sacrifice their uncompromising principles for money!
Wait a minute - Kansas gave me the impression that if they didn’t accept Medicaid expansion then low income people would just go away. Or something.
Could that hypothesis have been unpossible?
Did Brownback “signal” by waving his big, bright red baboon heinie in the air?
“It’s not a certainty that Brownback, who is facing. . . will sign into law. . .” is a suggestion but it’s before coffee. But I’ve been told I’m anal about these things.
I think Obama considers Kansas to be where his mainland roots are, grandparents born and lived there, so it used to be smart.
Where is the rest of the article? I didn’t see a single comment from the state’s elected GOP leaders about the value of bringing an important improvement to the lives of many tens of thousands of Kansas residents.
It was wildly unfair of TPM to end the article so abruptly, leaving the GOP officials looking like a bunch of total assholes who value Medicaid expansion only as much as it helps them retain more of their economy-destroying tax cuts for the wealthy.
I would be very wary of giving Kansas billions of dollars for Medicaid expansion. Several GOP Governors take money meant for one purpose and then redirect to the general coffers. They cannot be trusted to use the money as earmarked.

The chances of Brownback, who is facing an enormous budget deficit, signing into law a bill expanding Medicaid in the state is still far from a sure thing,
Should be are of course, but I hate to take away from the message just to nit pick a half-assed pol.
I would recommend that if Kansas does accept the funds, the Feds keep a close accounting of the money. I would not be surprised if Brownback found a clever way to divert some of those monies into the pockets of his cronies.
"“I haven’t said we’ll take it. I haven’t said we wouldn’t,”
Raw Crow ! Eck!!
No matter how hard you try to shut your eyes and say “is not! is not!”, reality will eventually hit you upside the head.
Like a lot of “professed devout Christian” politicians he doesn’t give a shit about anybody but his funders. He loves Buddy Jesus, but doesn’t know much about the real Christianity.
It’s official: years of unchecked, dangerous Brownbacking have caused an acute public health crisis in the state of Kansas.
Brownback is the model for trickle down economy: lower taxes and everyone will prosper. It’s a false faith and Brownback has proven it. The truth is that trickle down economy not only does not work but it puts a state or economy in great jeopardy. I don’t know where the trickle down faith comes from–Reagan is often cited. But Reagan was a tax and fee raiser both as governor and president. Still, it’s a Republican mantra. Good luck, Brownback! You’ll go down as one of the most ineffective governor of all time.
Poor guy, it must really suck to be forced to do something that will benefit the people you are sworn to serve.
