Discussion for article #234982
Wow!
You know who else helped people relocate? HITLER!!!
Muahahahahah!
So, let me get this straight (no pun intended):
Not only is IN losing jobs because of companies and/or groups are not interesting in dealing with this garbage but IN is also going to lose at least some skilled people with jobs who could contribute to IN’s economy.
Brilliant.
And companies thinking of expanding in, or moving a workforce to, Indiana are reconsidering.
Refugee from bigotry.
I really don’t see how you fix this law. Its basic premise is that whatever squirrely notion may take root in the mind of a “religious” person trumps the law. It’s the path to a religion-fueled anarchy. The only answer is repeal, or strike it down in court.
Ironically, Republicans have allowed corporations to amass extraordinary power in this country through Citizens United, various tax laws, etc., that THEY now have to bow down to the Walmarts, Apples, Saleforces of the world on social issues, where companies tend to be fairly progressive.
Tech companies as a group are very powerful and very progressive. And red states want them in their states. Meaning, expect them to lose on social issues going forward.
To paraphrase Hannibel Burress, Money over Everything…that’s the Republican way.
The incredibly loud dog whistle havng being sent, it’s more than OK with the paleos if the law is “fixed” now. The need for this was disingenuous anyway. They don’t really need to discriminate against LGBTs. They just need to look like they want to, and then claim majority victimhood. Missiion Accomplished.
There is no fix for what Pence has done to the state of Indiana. Some businesses may be satisfied just enough to keep doing business there but the word is out, Indiana is loaded with bigots and has to lie to everyone to get them to visit or work there.
Pence unwillingly is making the least change that he can, if he really understood he’d stand up and burn this thing.
This reminds me of the pattern secession followed before the Civil War. Except in this case it’s Red States and Blue States each recoiling from the other.
United States in name only.
Good for Salesforce.
Also? Any fix to this law, and any fix to any law that deals with religious rights of businesses?
Still going to run up against the bulwark for corporations to object to whatevs, thanks to the Hobby Lobby decision by our Supreme Court.
