Discussion: S.F. Bishop: Sorry For Water System That Drenched Homeless But 'It Was Light'

Discussion for article #234498

This Bishop’s problem is that no one on Gawd’s green earth misunderstood what his church was trying to do. Besides wasting water where its sorely in need of conservation, the Church’s approach to the homeless was just mean-spirited and callous. Hard to miss that. His apology is weak. Perhaps he needs to go to confession, ask for spiritual guidance and say 3 Hail Mary’s before he opens his mouth to address the public next time around.

The Church provided free showers for the homeless and people still complained.

"“We are sorry that our intentions have been misunderstood…”

Strip alway the mealy-mouth Republican style non-apology babble, and this is what he’s really saying:

We are sorry that my intentions have been understood and that I look like a flaming clerical hypocrite.

I thought it was an automatic baptism device.

Right. And someone had to water the granite or marble or whatever the fuck it is. Heck, that stuff doesn’t clean itself…

“The idea was not to remove those persons, but to encourage them to relocate to other areas of the Cathedral, which are protected and safer,” Justice said. “The purpose was to make the Cathedral grounds as well as the homeless people who happen to be on those grounds safer.”

Isn’t it some form of sin for a Bishop to lie his ass off?

California has one year of water left and the Catholic Church is using it to attack homeless people?

Is there something wrong with this picture?

Why not post something directing the homeless to somewhere safe to sleep like a shelter?

No, your intentions were quite transparent.

Here’s a suggestion for next time: A sign that lets the homeless know there are more comfortable and welcoming areas on church grounds for them.

If directing the homeless towards those areas actually was the intention, seems a sign is far easier, less expensive and more effective, than a one time warning and an expensive watering system.

Oh … they were just ‘misters’ you know, like at an outdoor cafe in St. Croix

You think the Pope is going to believe this crap?

Why would he? No one else does. CYA, although rather unskilled CYA.

Or how about inside the Cathedral? Many urban churches around the country open their doors to the homeless, especially on cold, inclement nights. Would that be too progressive for the Saint Mary’s parishioners?

Here goes some world class prevaricating right here. “We were just leaving the sprinkles on… in case the homeless wanted a refreshing drink. Yeah, that’s the ticket. …or in case they wanted to engage in some some personal hygiene. Yeah.”

There’s nothing worse than a “misunderstood” Christian having to explain and re-explain their “take” on ministry.
