We know through painful experience that freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed. Frankly, I have yet to engage in a direct action campaign that was “well timed” in the view of those who have not suffered unduly from the disease of segregation. For years now I have heard the word “Wait!” It rings in the ear of every Negro with piercing familiarity. This “Wait” has almost always meant “Never.”

After watching the unctuous and phony Paul Ryan trying to show concern for people he obviously doesn’t give two shits about, I have decided upon my upcoming Halloween costume: I shall go as a “Compassionate Conservative”. Which means, of course, I will have to pay $35,000,000 to Industrial Light and Magic to create the special effects in order to make me invisible.

The writer Calvin Trillin’s father used to tell his children, “You might as well be a mensch.” “Mensch,” as many people know, is a Yiddish word approximately meaning “a person of deep and habitual integrity.” Trillin’s father seemed to understand that it doesn’t much matter whether you’re ethical or not, you end up the same way, so having some decency and pride left to you at the end seems like the better way to go.
Ryan had no such mentor to help him. So he loses more and more of himself with every passing Sunday, it seems, defending the indefensible, showing how little he’s worth. It’s a shondah.

The one totally unexpected silver lining of the nightmare that is the Trump presidency is that he has reduced McConnell and Ryan and their ilk to slobbering sycophants loved by absolutely no one.
I mean, it was probably always true, but they never were backed into a corner like this where they had no choice but to reveal their true nature.

Maybe anyone taking the knee should carry a flag, stand and display it upside down. This is no longer a protest of singular topics, I see kneeling in protest as a signal of distress for our country. After reading the twits tweets this morning, I am no longer comfortable that he will maintain the stability and safety of this country. Tillerson must be having a very gray day.

Sherlock Holmes was allegedly a high functioning sociopath. By all accounts, he was extraordinarily intelligent. The Oompah Loompah-In-Chief is on the opposite end of the range for both characteristics (high functioning and intelligence). The chances of him faking compassion are two: slim and fat.
