Discussion: Ryan: Congressional Power 'Vindicated' In SCOTUS Ruling On Immigration

not having a full court to make the decision doesn’t mean you’re “vindicated.” It just means you didn’t do your job.

Gosh…why don’t you WRITE some then instead of sitting on your butt wh ining and sniveling and trying to stop everything from happening? Poor Paul…what a jerk.

But aren’t we suppose to judge Congress not on the laws it writes but on the laws it repeals? In either case they haven’t written nor voted on a comprehensive immigration law nor have they repealed, shored up, or done anything expect use it has a talking point for years. I’m beginning to think the motto of Congress is “Everyone talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it” Mark Twain

I enjoyed watching Ryan seethe last night…

Well as the time spent dialing for dollars increases then the time spent legislating decreases. They need those vacay days to give their dialing fingers a rest, rotary dials can be such a pain.

A kitten hissy fit?

Congressional power vindicated?

I think you mean that Congressional obstructionism saved this case from being 5-4 against you.

But Paul, Obama is so lawless, why should this even matter? He’ll simply do what he wants, because he’s a tyrant!

“Today, Article I of the Constitution was vindicated. The Supreme Court’s ruling makes the president’s executive action on immigration null and void,” Ryan said in a statement. "

HUH???
This Supreme Court decision did no such thing.
There was a tie vote, which kicked it back to the lower court decision. In short, it was a default.
The actual victory is the GOP controlled Senate; which for political reasons decided not to hold a hearing for the new SCJ nominee.
But of course no mention of that. Nor will Republicans be asked why THEY have done shit for immigration reform.

I guess a win is a win for Republicans, no matter what the spin. Gotta give them that. Golf clap to them That’s why it’s so important that we all get out and vote this election.

On second thought: My sense is that Ryan had this statement already prepared prior to the decision, which might account for the stupid, clueless wording.

OK Mr Ryan…Congress has the power to fix immigration and let these people get right with the law. I bet you will not do anything to fix immigration . Not now and as long as you hold the majority in the House you will not act like you should. You’ll bitch and whine but you will do nothing.
My feeling is your pay should be withheld until you do. No limos, no fancy dinners with fat cat donors, just a shrinking personal bank account.

Except nothing is or can be vindicated by a tie vote that simply leaves the lower court decision in place by deciding nothing.

He is and he does. Remember this piece?

Congress has actual powers under the Constitution that could stop such an action…but Ryan doesn’t reference any of them…things like, reaching across the aisle to pass legislation stopping such an action for example…or even impeachment.

No, he goes with an idea that the court has not weighed in on…that Congress can sue the President instead.

So…Actual powers? No, no…don’t use those. Made up powers? Oh Hell Yeahs!!

Because everyone knows vindications are always shown in ties.

Congressional power is an oxymoron.

so in conservative world, the supreme court is not a bunch of activist judges when it issues rulings that conservatives agree with.
