Discussion for article #244313
“I just want to speak to you a little bit about Ayn Rand and what she meant to me in my life and [in] the fight we’re engaged here in Congress. I grew up on Ayn Rand, that’s what I tell people.”
• “I grew up reading Ayn Rand and it taught me quite a bit about who I am and what my value systems are, and what my beliefs are.”
• “It’s inspired me so much that it’s required reading in my office for all my interns and my staff. We start with Atlas Shrugged. People tell me I need to start with The Fountainhead then go to Atlas Shrugged [laughter]. There’s a big debate about that. We go to Fountainhead, but then we move on, and we require Mises and Hayek as well.”
• “But the reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand.”
~Paul Ryan
This is a lie. I actually expected more of Paul Ryan. Apparently foolishly.
Feckless Fellow Follows Foolish Footsteps Farther
Someone needs to remind Ryan that a lot of republicans back tougher gun control. Oh and if the GOp does win in Nov 2016…we are fucked…
I think it’s an impressive response. I mean, if you’d have bet me, I’d have put $20 on Ryan not being able to say anything while gargling LaPierre’s balls. And yet, he was able to say all that!
Hmmm, did Paul Ryan shave today?
Ryan has no other choice than to ring out against President Obama’s Executive Order. He’s got an army of nutty republiCANTs in his house who are after his head! They are mad with him and have attacked his new beard. I think it was someone in the Freedom Caucus referred to Ryan’s beard as the “Muslim beard”…what that means, I don’t know…but he is trying to give them so other meat to chew on, other than his own…its called “self preservation”.
most disturbing? that 21% of those asked do not support “laws to prevent mentally ill from buying guns.” what in the fuck.
Would John Boehner be the “father” you are referring too?
Apparently attracted by the Dagny Taggart business model. Everybody should inherit a railroad.
Are you kidding me? Ryan has no time to read those stats…when he’s got angry growling going on outside of his office door. Not to mention the types of voice messages he may have received from other republiCANTs in the house.
“Still, rather than focus on criminals and terrorists, he goes after the most law-abiding of citizens. His words and actions amount to a form of intimidation that undermines liberty.”
If I attempt to purchase a gun is the default assumption I am law-abiding inherent in the process? How do we prevent sales to criminals and terrorists if we don't investigate the background of the buyer?
Oh shut up.You are making too much sense and Ryan will have none of that.
I agree with Mr. Speaker. Let’s focus on the criminals and terrorists - in the NRA. Let’s focus on all the blood they have on their hands, all the innocent people killed because they’ve worked tirelessly to make it as easy as possible for anyone to get a gun.
Let’s focus on the legislators that the NRA completely owns.
Let’s focus on how an amendment all about being drafted into military service to defend your country from an outside invader using your own gun (so the government doesn’t have to provide you with one) has been perverted by knuckleheads into some weird acid trip about overthrowing the duly-elected government in an armed and treasonous insurrection.
Let’s focus on the vigilante fantasies of the average conservative talk radio listener, and how incredibly destructive the anti-government crowd has been to our country for the last ~50 years - undermining our schools, our infrastructure and our collective good will towards each other.
Let’s focus on all of that, and then we can calm down a bit about closing some big, obvious loopholes in our gun laws that the legislature should have already taken care of years ago.
Fully understand that Wayne LaPierre’s lips would be moving while this came from Ryan …
but could never understand how LaPierre’s arm was long enough to reach up Ryan’s butt to control Ryan’s mouth.
It’s hard for Paul to think straight, what with LaPierre’s cock shoved down his throat.
Let’s be clear: If anyone in my family is ever a victim of gun violence, I’m starting with LaPierre, and then I’m moving on to his politicians. And I won’t stop until I’m done.
I thought this Ryan guy was supposed to be smart…a boy genius? He’s platitudinous, smarmy and deceptive. His remarks serve the only thing important to him: republicans.
The fucking Second Amendment has nothing to do with any of this.
“From day two thousand, five hundred and forty, the president has never respected the right to safe and legal gun ownership that our nation has valued since its founding,” There, I fixed that for
Speaker Ryan. I’m sure he meant to highlight how far into his presidency we are before President Obama took even this mild action, within the executive prerogative, because Congress is so totally in the pocket of the NRA.
Ryan: “[T]he right to safe and legal gun ownership that our nation has valued since its founding.”
Except it hasn’t:
"When Dodge City residents first formed their municipal government, one of the very first laws enacted was a ban on concealed carry. The ban was soon after expanded to open carry, too…
[N]o guns [were] permitted within the city limits of Big Whiskey, Wyo…
[P]ersons entering Tombstone would have needed to check their gun at the sheriff’s office when they arrived in town…"
Poor Eddie Munster and the party of Reagan can’t even tell the difference between history and Hollywood.
