Discussion: Russian News Agency RT Says British Bank Suddenly Blocked Its Accounts

I’m beginning to think Glenn Greenwald wrote that for them because it sounds just like him. “They’re coming for us, they are going to kill us!”

Cutting Assange’s Internet while simultaneously closing RT’s bank accounts may be enough of a message. There’s a lot of Russian oligarch money in London.

That doesn’t rise anywhere near the level of proportionality commensurate with dicking around with our elections and hacking the DNC. We don’t want to just send a message; we want Russia to know that our capacity to retaliate and hurt them in cyber-conflict far exceeds their own.

There’s a real risk of escalation, I’ve seen it suggested that posting modified documents as it appears Russia has done is an example, and we don’t want to reveal our capabilities.

No internet for Assange? And he’s stuck in the Ecuadorian embassy?

If he’s as glued to his Internet as I am, I almost feel sorry for him. Oh well, I guess he’ll have to spend his time learning Cyrillic.

Proportionality is key. If the US was behind the Wikileaks disruption then it is merely the tip of the iceberg and perhaps the only one that will be revealed publicly. Russia will not want their vulnerability to attacks to be seen as weakness by the rest of the world. A strong demonstration of proportionality will hopefully serve as a deterrent to further escalation. They have pushed the envelope for too long and a message has to be sent.

My guess (hope) is that we are doing a lot more than has yet been divulged. As to proportionality, what is proportional to Putin trying to destroy the integrity of the American presidential election and put his pupoet in power? It is hard to think of anything we could do that would remotely be proportional to that. But for starters, I think we should cut off their connections to the international banking system. We don’t have to announce anything. We control all of the vital technological infrastructure. We just do it.

Trump’s refusal to accept intelligence briefing on Russia stuns experts

Former senior U.S. national security officials are dismayed at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s repeated refusal to accept the judgment of intelligence professionals that Russia stole files from the Democratic National Committee computers in an effort to influence the U.S. election.

The former officials, who have served presidents in both parties, say they were bewildered when Trump cast doubt on Russia’s role after receiving a classified briefing on the subject and again after an unusually blunt statement from U.S. agencies saying they were “confident” that Moscow had orchestrated the attacks.

“It defies logic,” retired Gen. Michael Hayden, former director of the CIA and the National Security Agency, said of Trump’s pronouncements.

Doesn’t the British bank have a right to deny service to any country’s state sponsored television network?

Republican is surprised that Donald Trump defies logic. What a shocker!

I’m confused as to what free speech has to do with bank accounts.
