Discussion: Russian MFA: Butina's Jail Treatment Is 'Complete Lawlessness'

I think they were genuinely shocked that they snagged her.
They figured in Trump’s America they could operate with impunity.
The FBI unfortunately is not for sale like Trump

IIRC she was getting ready to boogie when they did. She’s sloppy, though, which is likely among the reasons she got caught.

Plays the world’s smallest violin for Buttina and Russia.

Aw…you reap the consequences of your actions.

Besides, mistreatment is in the eye of the beholder. Sure she isn’t living free in her old digs but hey, prison isn’t a spa or resort living.

I wonder if, Butina is the daughter of some Oligarch ? That kind of attention is unusual…

Pay no attention to anything that comes from Russia. It’s a country that’s run itself on bullshit for near 100 years and all you have to do is take a short trip to the ghastly place to see what it’s gotten them. The place is an unimaginable dumb. It’s people are provincial, stupid, and lack ambition. Alcohol is the substance that keeps them going. They stopped knowing what a lie was decades ago. Or caring. Pay no attention to anything that comes from Russia.

Quite a good number of very fine Mathematicians, Composers, Musicians though. I don’t share your disdain for the Russians.

Or fed her alive, feet first, into a furnace.

If only there was a balmy Caribbean island where she could be held. A place with a warm cell, somewhere she could breathe plenty of fresh air.

Compare this to the “humane” treatment Russia gave to Magnitsky by beating him to death when he was imprisoned on false charges.

Perhaps a Military Base, leased to the United States in perpetuity…in a region immortalized by a Pete Seeger song using Jose Marti poetry…

We’ll let the Russians know when we’re interested in their opinion on this.

And literary figures. One might say the very best writers and poets the world has produced.

I’m sure she’d get very nice treatment and a free first class upgrade on the first Aeroflot flight bound for Mother Russia.

She is said to hail from Siberia where her father owns a furniture business.

On the other hand, if you discount her (cover) story as you should for now, then very little about her is known.

Yes, many Russians are impoverished. As for the rest of your sweeping statement …

I’m not saying her father is Ingvar Kamprad, but don’t discount furniture businesses…

Everyone is perfectly entitled to have their own opinion on that.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman continued, “She is also totally not a Russian agent. We’ve never heard of her before and do not have handlers checking in on her regularly. I don’t even know what you’re talking about, though we’re totally up for swapping spies if you’re interested. Not that she is one.”
