Back during the Cold War, people on the left and the right had the most amazing blind spot when it came to acknowledging the existence of tyranny and oppression in ideologically aligned states. Being against tyranny and oppression regardless of which superpower sponsored it, enabled it or merely ignored it was considered unsophisticated or something.
So, yeah, I did not like the USSR and had no more patience for its apologists than I did the Reagan Administration’s active support of any number of murderous torturing fiends in Central America.
But in all that time, there was never a point when I had a greater hail of “fuck you motherfuckers” I wanted to rain down on the Kremlin than I have right now, in response to this.

That’s it. Putin’s given up on Trump, he’s done with him. God only knows what sort of humiliation and other damage he’ll decide to inflict on Trump personally. It’s really a challenge to imagine the combination of mental and moral deficits necessary to get yourself in as much trouble as Trump has.
