Discussion: Russia Threatens To Block Facebook If Platform Refuses To Store Data Locally

Critics have slammed the law, which went into effect in 2015, for
potentially exposing the data to Russian intelligence agencies.

Hey storing data in Russia has worked well for Donald! Only rumors of pee tapes, nothing released…yet!

My question is, why isn’t Facebook blocking Russia?

Don’t know if Livejournal is completely dead, but moving the servers to Russia is what made everyone I know delete their accounts there. If Facebook chooses to comply - especially given how much Russia has been manipulating the platform already - that would quite possibly cripple the company permanently.

In AP World, there are no facts, only what people say. Reporting things as fact opens you to spurious charges of bias.

Yes! Exactly!

Da, Tovarich

$$$$$$$ is why. Screw American Democracy, gimme the cashhhhhh.

Actually, my question would be, “Given all we’ve heard about Russian collusion and Russians flooding social media with false ads and agents, my question would be, 'Why on EARTH would YOU want to be on Facebook???”

Putin does not want Robert Mercer and Peter Thiel grabbing the personal data of Russian Facebook users so that they can be targeted by American trolls.
