Discussion for article #236360
Awesomesauce. One can only hope WI wakes the fuck up in 2016.
The 2016 Senate cycle is shaping up to be the opposite of 2014, with the map heavily stacked against the GOP.
OK Wisconsin, here’s your chance to make up for inflicting your pipsqueak governor on us.
Let’s just hope Dems get out and vote. I heard a pundit, whom I respect, say once that Republicans win when voters stay home.
Thanks Senator Finegold, you will bring respect back to Wisconsin.
Part of me wishes Feingold would run for president in 2016, but if he can return to the Senate, that will also work.
Totally agree but in addition to that, Feimgold needs to get a lot uglier in his campaigning. Johnson is such an evil moron, he’ll throw everything at Feingold regardless of its veracity. Johnson’s incredibly stupid and has no sense of decency at all - which makes him a very good fit for today’s GOP. During their last matchup, Feingold didn’t seem to believe fighting fire with fire was a good idea; he found out the hard way there aren’t any Marquess of Queensbury rules anymore.
The other factor not mentioned in that article, is that Hillary (who will be the nominee) will have much longer coat tails than anyone currently running on the republican side. Despite some dusting up over TPP, we are a much more unified party heading into 2016 than the republicans, who are divided up into half a dozen camps. That makes extending coat tails much easier.
Excellent. Welcome back to the arena, Mr. Feingold.
For a split second I thought I saw “Russ Feingold Running For President” and my heart skipped a beat.
I’ll take this though.
“we are a much more unified party heading into 2016 than the republicans…”
That’s assuming that there isn’t a Sanders third party campaign. When he doesn’t get the nomination—and he won’t unless Hillary implodes in some spectacular manner—he will be under intense pressure from the uber-progressive wing of the party to screw those nasty ConservaDem Clintons and mount a third-party effort. Right now there’s no indication he’d do that, but if the primary gets really ugly, who knows what might come out the other end.
Bye Bye Ron DOUCHEBAG Johnson.
“he found out the hard way there aren’t any Marquess of Queensbury rules anymore.”
Since he’s still blathering about bipartisanship, I’m not convinced he’s learned anything from 2010, when not only did he refuse to engage in “negative campaigning” but also declined money from groups outside Wisconsin. I’ve never been a fan of Democrats who primly insist on bringing a block of soft tofu to a gunfight.
All that aside, I hope like hell he beats the shit out of Johnson. I just don’t trust the voters of Wisconsin at all.
Nonsense. He has already indicated he has no desire in doing so. He also declared as a Democrat, when it would have been much easier to declare as a 3rd party candidate since he has been holding his seat in the Senate as one.
Nor will there be “intense pressure from the uber-progressive wing of the party”. Progressives will have their own candidate…the Green Party runs someone every year. But this notion that progressives are out to “take down” the party are just ludicrous anyway. Going back over the past half dozen or so elections, and progressives turn out pretty reliably and vote Democratic every time. Hell, they even show up in the same percentages in the off year elections…its the “moderate” Dems that stay home or switch parties. Those are the ones you should be scared of.
I wonder if anyone else remembers how unreliable Feingold used to be? Sure, things would definitely be better in Wisconsin with a Democrat, but he’s not really progressive–he’s closer to a corporatist/HRC figure.
thank you davey, you’re the voice of reason here.

Feingold ran one of the most incompetent campaigns in recent history in 2010 and managed to give away an election to an idiot. He spent the years prior to, and during, 2010 trying to see how many Democrats he could piss off. The question is whether he has learned his lesson or will he try to be the most pompous candidate in the race. I am not optimistic.
Right on. Johnson the tea bagger who got his unearned millions from his wife’s family used the idea that Feingold was too much a Washington DC insider against him. This shit worked even though Feingold was the only Senator with the cojones to vote against the Patriot Act. A campaign of integrity and decency will not prevail over the tens of millions of dollars the Koch’s will spend to keep Johnson’s useless ass in the Senate. Come out fighting Russ and don’t back down this time.
