Good to see Geraldo get smacked with a RulaâŚ
âHow many people here on Fox News do you have that are from Arab descent?â she asked.
And
Does a news network need to hire people from all over the world in order to be eligible to do itâs job? Jebreal thinking is just flawed.
Umm. Lupus misses the point.
Should Dan Rather be called a Texas journalist or a Presbyterian journalist, or a Canadian journalist. After all, heâs from Texas, maybe he goes to church, and Canada is a neighboring country, unlike Palestine is to Rula (?) if she is a US citizenâŚ
No, MS-NBC is still Arab-baiting. Itâs unconscionable but good for ratings, I suppose.
Irrelevant. She is making a point about presence or absence of reporters or staff from diverse experiences and thus of diverse perspectives. Her point is apt.
I thought a major investor in Fox News was a Saudi?
Lupus and MSNBC are apparently Arab-baiting.
Such bigotry is despicable.
Jebreal has joint Israeli-Italian citizenship. MSNBC, with more evidence, is a center of non-Earth journalism.
Well, she doesnât really tell us what her point is. She just gives us the fact that they donât have anyone from Arab descent working at Fox News (at least not anyone with air time).
If her point is that reporters canât cover an issue without having someone with intimate knowledge of the situation around them, then I have to agree with lupus that her argument is flawed. You can certainly cover fairly the Israeli-Palestinian conflict without being descended from either country.
The problem is her larger point is correct, that the media is biased towards Israel, but she undermines it by going after points that are unnecessary. If she just stuck to criticizing the actual coverage, then sheâd be on better ground.
Oh, too bad, Lupus, but you seem to have missed the point being made, in favor of your own right-wing embellishment.
Itâs commonplace for news and entertainment media companies to hire reporters to handle international news stories (like the Israeli aggression in Gaza) that are native speakers of the local language(s) and who have been exposed to the particular culture(s) in question. It aids in effective reporting. So, you can now see how it is your thinking that may be flawed, not Jebrealâs.
You are correct.
I watched that interview with Chris and Rula. She was incredibly unprofessional. She insisted on mixing issues to make her point.
And if she wants to lose the label âPalestinian journalist,â maybe she could cover more than one subject.
a agree 100% with ms jebreal. msnbc only looks at issues from the white and Israeli perspective. whatâs even more disappointing regarding msnbc is that they cover the same issues all day on every show - earth to msnbc, go find the definition of hard news and try it for a change
From the periphery, just picking up headlines here and there, Iâm not sure she knows what she is or wants.
If she wants to talk about Palestine the talk about it. It is the old argument about Ms. vs Mrs. Am I Mrs. John Smith or Abigail Smith or Mrs. Abigail Smith. It is irrelevant, just show them what you are and know and get on with it.
Why would anyone want to be in the same room as Geraldo anyway, let alone have him interview you?
Jebrealâs own websiteâs tagline is: âPalestinian Journalist Author and Screenwriter.â Criticizing others for referring to her as she refers to herself isnât just hypocritical; itâs stupid.
This isnât to say that she doesnât make some valid points. The rightwing media has treated this conflict with its typical simple-minded demonization of one side, and lionization of the bullies who currently control Israeliâs government. For example, I heard Chris Wallace bleat on about how Gazans should have spent the last six years becoming a Dubai (when Gaza doesnât have oil billions and is suffering through a blockade), and how these people should just go somewhere else when theyâre warned about bombings (when there is very little place to go in Gaza).
But Jebrealâs hypocrisy and unfairness (faulting others for calling her what she calls herself) undermines her credibility. And her references to journalists who donât tow her particular party line as biased simply because theyâre Jewish is despicable.
Requirements to be considered a journalist on Fox, are the following:
Women - Blonde & give good head!
Men - Dumber than a box of rocks and be able to prove it daily! Also, be available as a fluffer or a kingpin in a circle-jerk or whenever needed!
She also seems to be suffering from some cognitive dissonance caused by her own self-contradiction. Why does it blameworthy if a ânewsâ station (and I use that term very loosely for Faux) does not hire people of Arab descent, but also offensive if they label people of Arab descent accordingly (as MSNBC apparently did)? There are plenty of things to complain about in our modern news media, and Faux inhabits its own alternate universe, but perhaps this journalist is not the right person to be the face of that criticism.
Why IS it blameworthy⌠(Not sure how that random âdoesâ fit in.)
well, one could say that about pretty much all of the mass media in the US.
Presentation is everything. Time and again, hers stinks. She simply comes off as a wailing banshee. Her valid points are lost in her thrashing about.
Why is any media outlet obligated to host a Hamas spox - they are a terrorist organization. Never, after 9/11 did I see/hear anyone have an Al-Queda spox on, to voice âtheir point of view.â Thereâs no reason to give them a platform to publicize their goal: to exterminate every Jew on the planet - itâs written in their manifesto. Even the supposed reps. of Hamas that they do have on the air, devolve into shrieking and blaming and name calling - much like this woman - who are unable to admit to their transgressions. They complain of 'killing civilians." Just exactly what does a âPalestinian uniformâ look like? Long sleeves or short sleeves? What color? What headgear? Oh - they all dress in street clothes?.. well, thenâŚmakes it hard to determine who are civilians, then, doesnât it?
If indiscriminate rockets were being rained upon us from any source, we would incinerate that part of the globe - hell fire - we do it to countries that DONâT rocket us; Israel has a right of self-defense. How they go about it, they will have to live w/. But theyâll be alive to have regrets - no thanks to Hamas, either.
