So, people who are in the country without papers don’t deserve equal protection under the law? The Fourteenth Amendment might differ with that view: “No State shall…deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Fuck off, Marco, you ignorant lazy POS. Sure, only citizens can vote, but last I checked, the Census was about counting everybody who lives here. Perhaps Rubio and the rest of the GOP criminal class want to revive the Three-Fifths clause?
Who cares about other nations Rubio? Read our constitution, twit, to find out what this nation requires—the census requires counting every person.
“And districts apportioned based on # of people not here legally dilutes the political representation of WHITE REPUBLICAN citizens & legal residents.”
There, FIFY Marco.
This is a Republican urban legend making its way into policy. They think all urban areas are full of “illegal immigrations”. Not true. The POC population is growing and they’re almost all citizens or legal residents. Any reduction in the # of people will require districts to be redrawn and it will have to center on where the people are, which is in areas that lean Democratic.
Not only the 3/5ths Clause.
They want to repeal every single Constitutional Amendment after the 12th.
great job Florida
Little Macro is upset that he hasn’t gotten any press in a while.
If there’s a citizenship question on the census, I won’t be participating, period.
Seriously, Senator Rubio. You’re in a very stressful job and if your heart’s not in it, and you want to spend more time with your family, I think we can all agree that your resignation would be accepted by most Florida citizens.
Thank you Rubio for helping the case to toss the question. The drump admin claims it did this because it needs to information to protect minority voters, and yet Rubio thinks this is about not counting undocumented people which is unconstitutional.
If Rubio wants to change the constitution to change how the census works, well good luck on that one, but until then the question needs to go.
Do other countries have as many stupid legislators as the US has? How low can we go?
Do other countries have a system where one party wins a minority of votes but gets a majority of seats?
The Constitution, which this useless pendejo is supposed to protect and defend, makes no distinction between who is here legally or illegally when it comes to enumeration of people.
I guess the Strict Constitutionalists skipped that day in Strict Constitutionalism Class.
A compromise: Count non-citizens and undocumented immigrants as 3/5ths of a person. It’s worked previously.
Nick Danger, in an immigration thread yesterday, claimed that the California populace was 20% illegals. Yes, he’s a troll, but this view is sadly pretty common in the GOP.
I was just about to add that the perfect solution is to consider people here illegally as slaves, which the GOP will warm up to because it will mean more money for their plantations and thus, sticking it to the Yankees.
It is this brilliant scholarship that snagged him a teaching gig at 3 or 4 times the salary of the guy who actually taught the class.
The I’ll-say-whatever-GOP-wants kind.
Seriously though. Lots of immigrant populations get spooked by the normal census. So ever more intrusive questions will reduce participation.
So is support for pedophilia, white supremacy and Nazism. Lying about the Illegals is the least of their sad problems.
Just wondering how the “strict constructionists” that the GOP has been trying to pack the courts with will respond to this nonsense.
The enumeration clause doesn’t say “citizens”, it says “persons” after being amended by the 14th – and originally said free persons, Negroes at 3/5 persons and Indians who pay taxes.
This is simply a two pronged attempt to:
- Re-write the rules in favor of (mainly) white Republicans, and
- Find another way to target immigrant & minority communities by the DOJ and ICE
BTW – they’ve also managed to erase the LGBT community from the census as well – just so they won’t have to acknowledge marriage equality.
