These kids are amazing. They are able to expose the hypocrisy of the GOP and the NRA in a way no adult has been able - or willing - to do. Better than the vast majority of our journalists. Watching Rubio and the woman from the NRA try to lie themselves out of a direct question from a 17 year kid fighting for his or her life was breathtaking, at times. You could see on their faces that they knew they were wrong, that they knew they were lying to a child. And the kids didnât give in. They werenât cowed into silence by their âauthorityâ or their non-answers.
Iâm so sorry these kids had to go through this, but theyâre going to change our country in a way my generation couldnât.
Btw, I donât support Rubio or his agenda, but I give him a lot of credit for showing up. He knew it would be brutal going in - and it was brutal - but he did his duty and engaged.

Talking in the right direction. Letâs see if the talk is followed by commitment and action. Heâll probably give it a few days to see which way the wind is really blowing - and from where he can get $$$ when the NRA shuts him off. Or, as is often the case, maybe just talk and heâll soon come to the very difficult decision - that he prayed aboutâŚa lot - that access to all guns and all ammo is more important than stopping mass murders. No one knows how many AR-15âs there are in private hands in America, but it seems to be somewhat less than 4,000,000. If we doubled that number, to account for AR-10âs and AK-47âs and other versions of that ilk, 8,000,000 assault rifles may be on the streets.
So, fine. Lets give the owners $2,000 dollars each, unless they can prove their rifle was more expensive, and give them one year to turn them in for buy back. That would cost the Treasury about $16,000,000,000.
Letâs round that up to $20 billion.
How much did we spend in response to 9/11? That was an event that killed around 3,000 Americans.
I think we can afford $20 billion to get assault rifles off the streets.
