Until Marco can score coke again I don’t want to hear from him.
Well at least Rubio showed up for the caucus meeting, there’s that.
"I propose we transition to a premium support system, which would give seniors a generous but fixed amount of money with which to purchase health insurance from either Medicare or a private provider. "
I’m sure will be lots of providers who are eager to sell insurance to sickly 70 and 80 year old people. Who wouldn’t be?
I feel sorry for the guy. He’s publicly stated that it’s boring being a Senator and that he hates the job and now he’s being forced to do it for another 6 years.
True, the life of someone on the government dole is so boring (and so reprehensible if you’re not white or Paul Ryan or some other GOPer)
Well, see, that’s the problem. There might be insurers who will take the cream of the crop, those under 70 with no pre-existing conditions, reasonably fit, and so on, skimming them off of the Medicare base but still getting the Medicare rates. Those left on Medicare, the ones who won’t have that option, will be sicker and costlier. And this will be used as “proof” that private insurance is much better because, hey, look, it’s cheaper!
Yeah - they sure caught that car alright and they sure don’t know what to do with it now.
It’s worse than you make it sound. They are also underpaid (at 97% more than the median income of DC) and unable to live “decently.” We should all feel ashamed and demand they all get a pay raise, along with the subsequent retirement benefits. It’s the least we can do for the men and women who are tirelessly working for our nation.
Guess who’s from Florida.
The GOP, being the ardent students of history that they are, have come to the inescapable conclusion that the only way to save Medicare is to follow the lesson of Ben Tre, Vietnam - “We had to destroy the village in order to save it.”
Right–so the D takeaway is that Rubio wants to “reform” Medicare. None of the other details matter.
Yeah there are couple of people in Florida who are on Medicare, right? hahahaha
“Save medicare,” right. In the same sense that we “saved” villages in Viet Nam by destroying them. In a way you have to admire such a perfect, pure example of Orwellian doublespeak.
He’s full of shit. Rubio’s one of my Senators and I’ve been after him for some time about this. It took him 3 weeks ( and 3 proddings ) to answer a very simple question: do you support privatizing medicare.
“Social Security and Medicare are critical pieces of the retirement security safety net for seniors. In 2015, almost 65 million Americans received Social Security benefits of some form. As currently structured, however, these programs are going bankrupt and cannot fulfill their promises to future retirees.”"
And then the usual shit. GOP’ers have been saying this since these programs began. They have an ideological opposition to people getting things. Ronald Regan said medicare would lead to socialism in 1962. We’re still waiting.
Rubio wants to save Medicare by tearing it apart. “” the Trust Fund will be completely bankrupt by 2033 ( SS) ", “Without serious reforms to ensure the survival of Medicare, the program will be completely bankrupt by 2030”
And how many times have we heard this? It’s going bankrupt. We “need” to do to it what the GOP has dreamed of doing since day one of each program: hand it over to Wall Street.
Rubio is a greasy dyed in the wool politician. He’ll no more honor his claims to save medicare then he did his promise not to run for office again.
I just got the most pleasant little daydream drifting through my head: Young Marco being torn to pieces by a group of 85 year old Maenads who first hit him with their walkers until he’s unconscious. hahahahahahaha
How are members of the American public to judge the remarks of a Senator regarding Medicare whose personal finances are a shambles?
Still it’s a safe bet that he won’t vote for privatization because he won’t show up for the vote.
Because if he does he’ll never get to go home again. And so I wonder if Rick Scott can get his old job back at whatever the name of the company he ran that defrauded the government over Medicare?
