Discussion: Rubio: Homosexuality Not A 'Choice' But Gay Marriage A State Issue (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #235451

Looks like Marco is banking on people hating Hillary so much that he can get away with saying any fool thing that pops into his bigoted little head. He’ll be a natural on Fox in 2017.

Oh dear. It must be a Presidential election year and Mr. Rubio is starting what will be a long, long list of inane quotes about social issues from Republican candidates that are both wrong and inconsistent with America’s views. Sigh.

Talk about trying to have it both ways!

“…if a state wants…”

If a state wants to gerrymander minority rule, then those states should be allowed to decide which rights the majority are permitted.

I would never, ever, vote for him… but he did certainly step in it where his tea-base is concerned. Most of them truly believe that being gay is a ‘lifestyle choice’… like whether or not one chooses to live on a farm or in the city. They will trounce him.

And… if he truly believes that you are born to be who you are sexually… then it’s an amazing thing for a republican to actually say it.

“I also don’t believe that your sexual preferences are a choice for the vast and enormous majority of people,” he said. “I believe that sexual preference is something that people are born with.”

WHO CARES? Seriously, who cares? Even if you thought it was a choice, you’d have to support same sex marriage rights. This is so stupid.

Rubio, like that other paragon of Christian values Newt Gingrich, changes religions as much as the average prostitute changes johns, yet they are afforded special rights for a lifestyle that they CHOOSE. Why should I have to support and respect their “special” rights for their “chosen” lifestyle that I do not approve of?
And BTW, the more Marco speaks, the more the idiot we have always known him to be shines through. Keep talking, Mario Baby! Don’t let anybody shut you up!

The more they talk, the more of the nation laughs at them – even their own kind.

So, Marco, when you recite the Pledge of Allegiance, do you just remain silent during that antiquated part about “one nation,” and make up for it by shouting “under God”?

Some states used to also “regulate” marriage so that only people of the same race could wed each other. The Supreme Court found that the states had no such right to deprive human beings of their Constitutional rights. Rubio is just a slightly more refined version of the Neanderthals in his party.

State rights? I guess he doesn’t believe in the Constitution.

Yes, this is the irony in this whole choice/no choice “debate.” Even if it WERE a choice.

So, Marco swings both ways unlike Frothy Santorum!

They can have it both ways in this particular way because they know (or think they know) how the vote will turn out if it’s held.

Interestingly, “leave it to the states” has become the great dumping ground for issues too toxic for a candidate to address at any particular moment. Including, though less so, for Democrats.

The whole “choice” debate is a little bit weird. In order to be accepted, gay people feel they have to hammer home that “it’s” not a choice. Almost to say they can’t blamed or forced to do otherwise because they have no control over it. But that’s a helluva way to have to defend one’s life. In America, normally, we defend people’s right to choose their own way even it’s not popular and does no harm to others.

I don’t agree that gay marriage is just a state issue, but Rubio deserves credit for elevating the conversation a bit. We could actually have an intelligent debate about this. Remember intelligent debates?
