It is true that banning assault rifles is a very small step. And it is certainly not the only thing we should do. Indeed, I’d just as soon ban large magazines, jacketed bullets, unlimited purchases of ammunition and any one of a dozen other measures. So let’s push for all of them.
Don’t give senators proposals to reject. Give them objectives to reach, and demand that they reach them.
Don’t propose gun legislation to them. That gives them an easy out.
Instead, tell them: “Stop mass killings. We are the greatest country on earth, and we won’t live this way any longer. Make the killings stop. It’s on you. Make it happen. No excuses.”
Oh, please:

One thing Rubio COULD do, if he weren’t receiving $3.3M from the NRA since 2011, would be to repeal the GOP sponsored legislation that forbids the NIH and any other federal agencies to fund research into gun violence. This is because the NRA knows that scientific research will lead to gun control just like in the countries that are not plagued by mass shootings. So it is the height of disingenuous hypocrisy for Rubio, after being paid $3.3M by the NRA to say we dont fully understand what can be done to prevent shootings. The NRA is censoring scientific research so that Rubio and his other GOP friends can say this.
