Discussion for article #226237
Very interesting. I was not aware Farrow had adopted a Black male child.
I am impressed that Mia was aware that - like Black moms and dads - she, too had to caution her son regarding certain actions. Good for her
Never heard the term “Black mother-itis”; ya learn something new every day
So says Frank Sinatra Jr…
Sorry, doesn’t excuse his man crush for Rand Paul.
Mia Farrow is a Strong Black Woman!
In context, it was a valuable comment. I think the black motheritis part was unfortunate. It’s the kind of silly thing I might say-- then rephrase a minute later.
It sounded like he was saying something else.
His brother is Frank Sinatra Jr. While he actually LOOKS more like Frank than his brother did at that age - though his brother looks like old frank- he would at best be Rowan Sinatra.
Now…if he can sing…
When I saw the photo I thought, “you are so Sinatra’s kid,”
Gosh, he looks more and more like his dad, Woody, every day.
Yes, I think he was trying to say something that is important for us to hear - that young black men have had a different set of behavioral expectations in order not be be perceived as criminals. He just didn’t express himself very well. (and, personally, I would prefer we not speculate on who his father was. Ronan didn’t have a say in that or how it was handled in the media. He deserves criticism for what he does with his life and how he does his job.)
So this was your way of dismissing the actual subject matter as unimportant?
I get what I believe he’s attempting to say. And it is an unfortunate truth. The perception defining the Black/African American in the US was not one created by THEM but by the very group of people who use this misology against them. And BTW, it’s not lost on me that some of these comments are a tactic of dismissing the actual subject matter as unimportant. We see you.
Never knew to this moment that he was Mia Farrow’s kid.
Show ya where I’ve been with my celebrities.
On the other hand, I just read some great dish on Kim Khardashian (sp?) in my dentist’s. office. She’s looking for digs in NYC. Maybe Josh will have one of his troops cover the move-in.
Just can’t get enough of manufactured celebrities these days.
They still have magazines at your dentist’s office?
i just googled him. He’s got some impressive credentials.
Could my kid get his job with the White House and later with MSNBC with the same credentials?
Naaaaah!
Jess,
Yeah, they’re pretty grubby. I wash my hands when I get home.
Holy crap, people. Who cares what Ronan Farrow looks like? He’s a douchbag.
I’ve had Afr Am classmates and colleagues tell me similar things about what they were taught growing up about surviving among whites.
An Afr Am Army buddy would not go into any kind of drinking establishment in NC back in the day unless we were in uniform and he was with a group of us white guys.
Yo, Ro Ro! Wuttup son?!
Isn’t it more a societal case of black-boy-itis though? Not that Ronan’s mom isn’t great. More that society is not so great. Not all too shocking either.
