Discussion: Ronald Reagan Returns To His Namesake Library As A Hologram

Ronald Reagan wrote one book. About himself. And appropriately, it was ghost written.

The best Ronald Reagan book was one that has been copied many times since, but his was the first. You could buy it everywhere. The Wit And Wisdom of Ronald Reagan . It was 200 pages long.
200 blank pages.

ā€œWe wanted to make President Reagan as lifelike as possible,ā€ said John Heubusch, executive director of the Reagan Foundation.

Too bad they couldn’t have done that when he was in office.

Reagan, who didn’t think we even really had a race problem? Who seemed to be living a role in a futuristic celluloid fantasy world of his own? Who didn’t know squat about economics or anything much else about government? What he lacked was vicious aggressiveness; he had the narcissism, obliviousness, etc. and a pretty good coverup crew as well. And the Zeitgeist; the timing was off. But he made great inroads into our stability anyway, mostly in sapping foundations.

Nixon didn’t lack anything Trump has but stupidity, showmanship talent, and the full-blown complicity of the whole Republican party. Good thing, because with his intelligence he could have destroyed us even faster and more completely than Trump.

The holograms? They need to can the artist and get one that can make one that actually looks like Reagan. I’ll take the hologram any day over the reality.

Hands up forum - what would you rather see - this, or 45* 's animatronic in Disney’s hall of presidents?

If it is a 3-D projection, then it has more depth than the original (also more substance). But it may be the perfect Republican presidential candidate to run once Trump is trotted off to Federal prison.

I’ve always said… government… govern… government is the solu… the solution. Would your old buddy President Reagan lie to you?

Governor Reagan on race (it only got worse when he went to Washington). February 1974, Patty Hearst kidnappers demanded her somewhat wealthy father distribute food to ā€œthe peopleā€ in Oakland, a majority black city.

It was a disorganized disaster. Scores of people were injured as panicked workers threw boxes of food off moving trucks as huge crowds of people unexpectedly showed up for the food. The size of the crowds shocked the media and so upset Gov. Ronald Reagan that he stated, ā€œIt’s just too bad we can’t have an epidemic of botulism.ā€

And later (after experiencing the above), in one of his presidential candidate debates, he said with profound innocence ā€œGee, we didn’t have race problems when I was young!ā€ And not a soul called him on it, nor have ever seen/heard of anyone even mentioning it.

SIMI VALLEY, Calif.

Fitting that this Nazi scumbag was buried in the same place the LA Einsatzgruppen got off for their crimes against humanity.

Glad he’s dead and I hope he was in agony for years.

Of course, we all remember his vociferous condemnation of McCarthyism and Nixon.

That’s to say nothing of the humanitarian work he displayed with the Contras, the Iranians, the Taliban, and Saddam Hussein.

What was the 5% you agreed with?

Was that the big, fat yeast roll or a Kaiser roll?

Will Hologram Reagan primary Trump on 2020? Mornin’ Joe, the world looks to you for your insight.

He did a good job of challenging the Russians (basically continuing Carter’s later policy) and then dealing appropriately with the Russians at the end. Credit where Credit is due.

Lots to talk about Reagan (including his telling the Iranians not to release the hostages as he would be more friendly to them than Carter) but ultimately I think Reagan was driven by what he thought was best for the US. The contrast with Trump where its all about what is best for Trump is a huge one.

Not a popular view around here, but there is a big difference between disagreeing on ideology and direction (with Reagan) and just being interested in whatever serves his own short term interest/whims (Trump). I would consider Reagan an American patriot, I would never say that about Trump.

You’re right about this part. The rest not so much.
