Someone in the media needs to ask Trump straight out if he needs protection from a primary challenger. And couch it in schoolyard terms he will understand.
Yeah, but Romney isn’t going to be the one primarying Trump. Assuming Trump is even the candidate in 2020, which to me, is a a pretty huge assumption.
Any moves by the RNC to lock down the primary for the sitting President are much more likely to help Pence. And I doubt there will be much stomach to protect a Pence who is quite likely going to be facing his own investigations. Once Trump is gone, the GOP is going to move rapidly to pretend they were never behind him, and as part of that process, Pence (and everyone else in his administration) will have to be shunned.
I still think the most likely scenario is Trump resigns/is removed and Pence becomes the lamest of lame ducks, ends up being primaried and loses…going down in the history books as the first sitting President to lose a primary to his own party.
Gotta love the incestive nature of the GOP.

Trump running in 2020, don’t count on it and if he did I can’t believe most Rethugs would think he has a chance at winning. He, at this point, is not convicted of any crime but it’s just a matter of time. He is a criminal and he has to go.
