What a coincidence that it should crop up now.

TPM was out to lunch on this. The DuMond thing was probably one of the most reckless partisan acts in the USA’s history. Short story for those not familiar with it DuMOnd was incarcerated for the rape of a girl that turned out to be a distant relative of Bill Clinton. DuMond had a history of violence against women but the Parole Board ( a GOP’er loaded partisan agency ) recommended DuMond be set free when they realized his victim was a Clinton. There was serious concern this man would rape again if released but Huckabee, then Governor, went with the sick partisan effort and cut him loose. DuMond quickly raped and killed again.
If Huckabee does run he will confront this. And he damn well should.

I concur with the previous comments about the Clinton-hunting context of DuMond’s release being a vital part of this story. And more: the release a truly foul campaign led by the NY Post to present DuMond as an innocent of the “Clinton mafia.” Huckabee released him to please the Insane Clown Posse. Not a word of contrition, of course, when poor martyred DuMond went on to kill two women. (IIRC, he died before he could be tried for the second murder.)

Dumond was also castrated or castrated himself between the time he was arrested and his trial.
This ad though smacks of the kind of Willie Horton style negative campaigning that respectable candidates try to avoid for fear of blowback. The Romney people leaked it to McKay Coppins so it will get attention without actually having to run it. This means Romney’s taking the gloves off early.

Clemmons was another Huckabee Gubernatorial achievement. Like DuMond, Clemmons was pardoned by Huckabee even though he had a 1000 plus page prison file, 29 disciplinary actions, many for violence and not a redeeming mention anywhere in it. He was serving a long bit, over 100 years I think, and Huckabee, who claimed to have “read the entire file” on Clemmons, cut him loose. That was in 2000. in 2009 Clemmons, now in Washington, shot and killed 4 police officers in a coffee shop. Huckabee was criticized for allowing such a piece of trash out of the pen as well as obviously having lied about “reading the entire file”.

The castration thing is a bit tough to buy. It was blamed on Clinton. as one might expect, and that was amplified in right wing media. In fact the consensus is that Mr. DuMond may have done the dirty deed himself. Most of his claims did not hold up ( he claimed to have been hog tied for the castration but there were no rope marks on him ) and a near empty bourbon bottle, was found at the scene. DuMond was an anti-Clinton guy.

Now watch…the GOP’ers are going to scream bloody murder if this issue is raised…“its unfair”…the whole bit. I hate the “what about Clinton” trick but: Willie Horton.
Just to add to what the first reply said, the main reason Huckabee supported the pardon (aside from DuMond’s victim being a Bill Clinton relative) was that DuMond swore up and down that he was a Born Again Christian, and specifically referenced this in his pardon.

There was and is NO WAY this does not come out if Huckabee becomes a serious contender. He was not in 2012 so it never surfaced,. If he is in 2016 ( and I doubt he or Romney will be ) this is going to get hashed over. There is no way in modern American politics this stays quiet.
Don’t need any killer ads to destroy the Huskster. He’ll become the pres when I become pope.
